DanielG 286
your a non resident alien(foreigner) if you were from the lower 48 you would be a non resident alaska has a reputation for outfitters using spotters to find game, and then directing the guide to areas. (not very sporting)/ Canada is likely a better bet with more chance of fair chase. best of luck Dan
Hopley89 31
Dan thank you for that advice i thought i'd be classed as non resident alien, so that means i need a guide on all big game and the price has just increased by over half!! i think i'll have a look at canada- i don't want to have a quide or i don't want people spotting for me, i'd like to do all my own spotting and live off the lands for the week, so i will focus my attention at looking what canada can offer regards Dan
DanielG 286
Dan unfortunately you will need a guide in canada also on big game unless your a resident .I used to live in canada so i never needed a guide.
Hopley89 31
oh so i would need a guide? on all game? what if i have family who live in canada?
DanielG 286
you only need a guide on big game in canada not small game. Probably not the best idea to hunt big game out there, without a guide anyway, without knowing the country, or the animals, could turn out bad quickly. regarding hunting with family ,I can only speak of BC where i lived which allowed hunting with close family members ie brother, uncle, nephew ,father, son, NOT cousins and they have to have a hunting license. I had my Dad come out to hunt black bear with me. A couple of times. Edited February 20, 2017 by DanielG
Hopley89 31
is it expensive for a guild in canada as when i looked at the overall cost for alaska for 5night it was around $18,500 that was me living on the land!! my family member arnt close family, it's my grandads brother!! iv been thinking of moving to canada but i don't think my kids would want much to do with me.. Mickey Finn 3,014
http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=license.general Hopley, there are plenty of quality guides in Alaska. Fair chase is the rule and the biggest hurdle is cost. In Ontario Canada, I know you can camp on crown land and hunt for white tail deer without a guide. But to be honest hiring a guide in either place would be the smart course of action. The lower 48 also have many guides who practice fair chase and run a quality business. On average Canadian guides are much cheaper. What species did you want to go after?
ratbuster 807
I did visit my family in BC and the Yukon area Octoberlast year and checked out the possibilities to hunt. My brothers in law do have hunting licences and i could join them after obtaining a Non-resident alien- licence or got myself a guided tour. In the Yukon territory I could obtain a small-game hunting licence after paying a fee of C$ 20 and showing my drivers licence. You have to have somebody accompanying you, i.m.h.o. because of the vastness of that country. Coming from such a small country as the Netherlands one could come into trouble very easily, we're simply not used to such enormous spaces and totally lack of local knowledge makes the change on getting into trouble quite real. Also went to Alaska, situation is comparable with the Yukon. Big game only guided, but guides are (as said) much more expensive. http://www.env.gov.yk.ca/hunting-fishing-trapping/huntinglicences.php#small
gazjon5 819
Here in Alberta, (Canada) you have to hunt with a guide or hunter host. No requirement on the host been a relative though. So long as they are a Alberta resident and hold a valid hunting licence I believe you are ok. You have to pay more and you can only hunt on general tags for animals the locals dont have to enter draws for, but there is huge areas of crown land where you do not need permission. There is a chance of black bear, whitetail and mule deer, elk, moose, wolf and coyote. None would be easy and would involve travelling away from the major cities and towns, to areas with limited access making it very tough on foot. As others have said hunting in the wilderness carries dangers alot different to hunting in the uk. For more info on alberta hunting see http://albertaregulations.ca/huntingregs/licencecosts.html

Born Hunter 17,784
Ted, out of interest would a similar package for Bear, Elk or Ram be that sort of money too? I'd imagine more but I know you lot have a thing about your whitetails so maybe not. That price works out at about £1500.
