neil cooney 10,416
Question 18 is proving to be a difficult one and it could be argued open to interpretation. How to or how not to end up in the divorce courts ? Possibly, but no one has had 17 correct and maybe the 18 question so it's still an open contest. Quote Link to post
Kaizer Sozĕ 266
An otters excrement is known as spraint. And an otter's tail is known as a rudder, or stern. Quote Link to post
Haiddheliwr 1,911
Is 17 some form of trick question Neil? I would have said the same as the rest of the lads! Quote Link to post
Haiddheliwr 1,911
STOPPING OUT- Fox earths are "stopped" when they are blocked during the hours of darkness preceding a hunting day. The fox is then out and the object of the manoeuvre is to make him sleep out next day and so be available for hounds to find. PUTTING TO- To stop a fox earth on the morning of a hunting day with the idea of keeping any fox already inside and of preventing a hunted fox getting inside. Quote Link to post

Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Otters tail is a rudder . Stopping out is preventing a bolted fox from getting back in . Putting to is casting hounds on a known fox line . Quote Link to post

stop.end 4,082
Since this forums been quiet lately I threw a little quiz together for the working terrier nerds out there for some amusement. I'll buy a couple of pints for the first person to get all the questions correct if or when I see them, LOL. 1. What year was the Fell and Moorland Working Terrier club founded ? 2. Who wrote THE TERRIER SONG ? 3. Who owned the famous Wheaten terrier "Peter Sinead" that won dog of the year 3 times in the 1970s in Ireland ? 4. What was the name of the terrier Bert Gripton used to bolt the last Otter legally accounted for by hounds in England ? 5. Captain Edwards named what breed of working terrier after his estate in Pembrokeshire ? 6. Where in Europe can you still dig "Blaireau" ? 7. In what year did we loose that great terrierman FRANK BUCK aged 85 ? 8. Who was the Jack Russell hunt terrierman who had the FOXWARREN prefix ? 9. What hunt were BUTCHER and BADGER doing service for in 1948 that resulted in a 14 day rescue ? 10. Who wrote the book THE TERRIERS VOCATION ? 11. In the good ol' days which of the following would a terrier be LEAST likely to meet, Lutra Lutra, Meles Meles, Canis Lupis, Vulpes Vulpes ? 12. In what year did the first edition of EARTH DOG / RUNNING DOG appear ? 13. What breed of working terrier were BROWNLOW BOB and his son FREECROW HERO ? 14. Would you hunt SIONNACH with your terrier here in Ireland ? 15. Best known for Bedlington crosses what hunt was Tommy Dobson associated with ? 16. Is stopping done before or after hunting ? 17. The fellow who does a SPRAINT, has he got a RUDDER or a BRUSH ? And finally one for the professionals, 18. What's the difference between STOPPING OUT and PUTTING TO ? Hopefully I'll owe someone a couple of pints when I meet them. Enjoy. This was the only question I couldn't work out... Quote Link to post
