Wolfdog91 7,402
Figured yall would find this interesting . Me and m little brother caught our first legit snapping turtle today. I say legit because we've caught them by accident fishing before but this one was actually caught in a turtle trap. Its a small one , 10 lbs tops ( I think that's like 4-5 kg ). 7 Quote Link to post

I'll double that if he sticks his finger in its mouth and posts the picture There was a program on a few nights ago about fellas hunting in the American swamps - everything from frogs to snakes to alligators. I'd love to be able to do that 1 Quote Link to post

A broom handle? f**k me. I take it back - don't stick your finger in there ha Yeah those are more of the larger ones, the gator snappers mainly. Those aren't super common in my state as they are futher south in Louisiana. I had I friend who caught one , think it drowed in one of his catfish nets, thing was like 200lbs, theres old news clippings from back in the 20'-50's where they caught 500 pounders I mean just huge creatures !. those thinks would snap a broom handle like a twig and tank a finger clean off. how ever what I have are the common snapping turtles. They can get really big to 30-65 pounds is a common size in many states. there bite is still pretty bad but not as bad as the gator snapper 5 Quote Link to post
Wolfdog91 7,402
Thy look vicious sods, ive seen them on the tv. Whats the story with trapping it? Are they classed as vermin or is it dinner? I wouldn't say they're vermin in the sense of rats but they are a pest in some situations. The main problem they cause is eating fish in peoples ponds . They also take ducks, geese , I've seen em bite cows on the utters ( and other places ) when they wade in ponds. They'll also bite people swimming. t, until he thing is most of the time people wont even know they're in their ponds for years ! There extremely stealthy animals believe it or not. I have a rather large pond behind my house and ive fished there since I was in diapers, I only found out this year there were snappers only because they were on the surface mating. And I'm not kidding you whan I say them to things were as big around as a hubcap ! And Most likely there's more in there ! Now a lot of people eat ad sell em to . I cant sell turtles in my state I theres guys in other states who make big $$$$ during the summer trapping turtles. and yes a lot of people eat them. 2 Quote Link to post

trappa 518
Thanks wolfdog. As above, your topics are alway different so nice to see. All i seem to trap are moles and squirrels I kinda feel a little sorry for the turtle, i keep tortoises as pets so i sort of connect to them, but as i said, they look vicious buggers and i know for a fact if they were in a pond in my backyard id have trapped them straight away! I know tortoises are supposed to be real tasty so presuming turtles might do as well. Keep trapping and sending us the pics mate!! Edited February 13, 2017 by trappa Quote Link to post
