king 11,972
Pressa canario. We had 1 yrs ago.spike. my 3 young lads grew up with him. he was a proper man stopper. We didn't lock the back door at night for years. A burglar was more than welcome to creep in the house at night. Infact I would of loved to see someone creep in the house. They wouldn't of walked out of the house guaranteed. I had another pressa bitch and a staff bitch who had a go 1 day in the yard the wife phoned me in work to come home to break them up. Both bitches in some mess. And Spike just sitting there watching the pair of them. He wasn't interested in fighting other dogs. He wanted to fight strange men lol. 8 Quote Link to post

king 11,972
I've told lads before some believed me some didn't. The wife taught Spike to wink lol. Left eye or right. It blew my head when I came home from work 1 day. Watch this she said I taught Spike to wink. Feck off you daft twat I said.lol. And sure enough she called him over made him sit. And he would wink what ever eye she said. I could mention Spike to the wife today. And she would start filling up with tears. The best dog we ever had. The kids regularly talk about him. How they used to ride him around the house like a horse.lol. 55kg 8.6 stone. I would pay all the money ive got and the car. To have him as a pup again. Some dogs really have a massive impression on your life and family for some reason. And Spike was 1 of them dogs. 13 Quote Link to post

king 11,972
Shake of the neck and your goose is no more .Dogs are the key though they can be bribed .If you came in the house yrs ago and tipped a pile of sirloin steaks on the floor.infront of him.he wouldn't be interested in them. You would be having it 100% guaranteed. No one would come between the wife and kids when he was there. The wife used to do some sleeve work with him in the garden. 5 mins later he would sit by on the carpet towering over my lads who were sitting on the floor with a plate of sandwiches and crisps. He would have a quick glance at the plate and look away. And wouldn't move till they finished there food. Amazing protection dog in my eyes. I'm sure he would snap a German Shepherd In half lol. Dead Eyes 681
Dogs like that are once in a lifetime And what you want a yard dog for? To protect whilst you're not there, or to alert you when you are there? Different dogs for a different job But in general a farm collie is more than ample enough ... b*****d things 2 Quote Link to post

bird 9,926
Depends what you prefer... my dad always had German shepherds when I was a lad.. they were good because they had the all weather coat to be chained up on the allotment , spot on, they can handle the weather in the UK , have natural guarding instinct, and are vocal. Many people go for big looking macho dogs , mastiff types, rotties etc, which dont get me wrong would deter any norm person from going to your place. But they only bark 95% of the time when the person actually (on) the property , which is no good because they only got to have a gun or poison the dog once there .But a dog that vocal like gsd or a jack terrier will deff alert you 30 yds before you get there , and a well bred male alsatian of odd lb will deff stop any man if it had to , but it shouldn't come to that as it will warn you well before , a well bred alsatian all the way 1 Quote Link to post
leethedog 3,071
See a collie cross at a farm a good few years back it would of taken a very brave man to get out the motor without farmer present . I think it was ever gsd or Belgian shepard cross 1 Quote Link to post
C.green 3,231
Know a lad trying to rehome a boerboel, 17 months old and 97kg. Absolute monster.I don't like many of the mixed breeds presa Rottweilers and the like but them some boerboel are handy tools in the right hands not too defensive and have some presence and size they make some presas and cane corsos look silly in comparison. Edited to say best of luck finding something suitable but remember not many are gonna come to your place cracking a whip and waving a bite sleeve just something to bear in mind when your looking for a dog ?
