Good To See Police Have Got Their Priorities Right For Efficient Use Of Dwindling Police Budget

Recommended Posts

Police officers have responded to hundreds of incidents of illegal hare coursing in Cambridgeshire over the past four months.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary has revealed that it logged 831 incidents between the beginning of October last year and the end of January 2017.

Banned since 2004, hare coursing involves the pursuit of the small animals with greyhounds or other dogs.

A Rural Crime Action Team was re-formed by the police in April last year following community concerns about the practice, which typically peaks in winter months.

Figures show that the specialist team reported 73 people for coursing offences since October 1 last year and seized five dogs.

It also seized 31 vehicles, some of which are waiting to be crushed.

Since 2014, police have had powers of dispersal to order suspected coursers to leave an area for up to 48 hours.

Officers can even expel people from the entire county if they have travelled into Cambridgeshire for coursing.

The Rural Crime Action Team issued 106 dispersal orders over the four months since last October.
