desertbred 5,490
It would depend on his work load if any and how active he is.. Quote Link to post
bribri988 141
He's out working most days and is very active out for 2/3 hours a day most days ratting if not every day Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
Get some fatty scraps from the butcher. Should cost nothing and you can add a handful to his food each day. Dried foods rarely have enough fat for an active running dog. Personally I feed only raw meat and bone. My daughters whippet does great on this but you need a freezer to do it. WILF 46,773
This may sound silly, but have you just tried giving the dog a lot more than usual?....... 4 Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
A bit of fat helps them keep weight on as they can burn it for energy. If they don't get enough they will burn protein instead and that won't help with muscle bulk either. Quote Link to post
bribri988 141
Yes mate he's on double now the other 3 dogs are fine just him can't seem to find or figure why!! Quote Link to post
desertbred 5,490
do you rug him up when its cold at night ?as a dog gets older it can use a lot of food source just to keep warm. Give him a couple of mutton ribs on top of his normal rations daily mutton has a high fat content. Edited February 6, 2017 by desertbred 3 Quote Link to post

Aussie Whip 4,097
If he's wormed and food increased might be underlying problem,I'd get a vet to check him.Had one like that, had a urinary infection. After antibiotics was fine.He was also 7. 1 Quote Link to post

johnny boy68 11,726
As db said get a coat on him, the last few weeks the temps have really dropped in the nights. Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
I would be looking going to the vets if I had doubled his food and he was still not putting on weight ... especially if he is ratting a lot you may want to get a kidney and liver check all done cheaply with blood tests ...... 2 Quote Link to post
dustyj 63
Maybe try giving the dog a week or so rest won't do him no harm. Quote Link to post
