Cage Trapping Rabbits

I own a small acreage.Surrounding me is acres of blackberries,full of rabbits.Dogs catch a few but can't ferret it.Ibought some cage traps but have only caught one rabbit in a month.I'm using fruit and bread as bait.Anyone got any tips on bait or other methods.Can't snare as me and neighbours have cats.

One thing that no one has mentioned is the positioning of the cages. All the photos I have seen from people who do it regular the cages are out in the open along side a well used run. There was a thread on here by Nod where he goes into detail about the positioning of the cages with photos but I cannot find it.

the positioning does seem to be vital.

 

Place them at the side of the rabbit runs in the open with the doors facing away from their burrows so they have the open door when they are returning toward their burrows

Pre baiting is crucial for cage trapping, wait for a time of year when natural food is low.

 

 

Why pre bait.... Get the cages set and when a rabbit goes in for the first time then thats another one out of the way. We set 30-40 most days and have never pre baited yet. We also never cover the floors like has been mentioned.
