Oil Fired Boilers

Recommended Posts

I've just had to order another 800 litres of Kerosene. We've used the last 700 up in 6 weeks, that's over £300! Are they all very expensive to run?

We had a problem where it went in to lock out many times a day and had it looked at. It was producing very high CO2 levels and if I understand correctly was running rich so maybe that is contributing?

What is everyone else using because we're only in a large bungalow so it sounds a bit extreme to me.

Cheers

Oil prices fluctuate across the year but you always have to shop around. Some companies will let you pre-order for delivery later in the year. I have a 1500 litre tank but usually only put about 500

Are you sure the loft monster isn't warming his toes at your expense?. Jok.

We have a good deep hearth so that helps but even so the carpet has a few hot rock holes but that's what rugs are for hopefully I will be putting a oak floor down next ...I like the smell of coal als

We only managed to use 500 litres between March and December. Sounds like something wrong with your boiler.

Maybe there's a pipe going in to next doors as well lol

I need to keep an eye on this following the service, it's still going in to lock out so something is wrong with it.

At this rate it will be cheaper to just buy another one, maybe going LPG since the boilers are cheaper than oil fired ones, think a new one of these would be £2700 :(

You might have a leak in the line. Air in the oil would cause the boiler to lockout.

I used to have a Grant boiler, absolute crap, changed it to a Bosch, I heat and run hot water in 3 bed house for about 1000 litres every 9-10 months excellent efficiency from Bosch, think I paid about £2500 for the boiler

We've 1 here and uses roughly 30ltr a week.

If it runs out it needs bleeding though.

700 in 6 weeks I bet you've got a tan using that amount.

It hasn't even been a cold winter.

It's been very mild.

Get someone in to service it and have a chat with him.

Thanks for all the advice sounds like we're going to be better off with just replacing it, we can get an external one in that case and free up some space, I'll get the engineer back, he seemed like a decent guy and worked hard.

Eye watering bills!

Have you any access to timber or turf mate?...........I disconnected my oil burner totally and everyone thought I was mental, i am lucky enough however to own 2 bits of bog and a wood so I am totally self sufficient in heating.

Spent some money on a modern little range that will heat upto 20 radiators and now my only utility bill is electric.

If you can get the timber cheap enough then getting off the oil or gas is the way forward mate

I'd love to do that, because we had a combi I couldn't have the woodburner tied in to the heating system at the time.

Not sure how practical it would be but something to look in to.
