i think that dog is to skinny

who keeps giving this fella the thumbs up ? must be his mum and nan ! seagul and joe bred foxy. and they wernt a patch on foxy thereselfs. Do you know micky drew who started that line? if you do ask

mostly plough at boston and killing hares on plough don`t count.... none of the critics entered the forley cup because real coursing men won`t have anything to do with anyone who thinks it`s ok to run

If you read what i wrote...I was replying to your words...

" A dog that can run as fast as a 3/4 collie cross but stays like a first cross saluki would be worth a fortune."

In-so-much as there are plenty of dogs capable of this.....

I was not refering to you not having seen a collie cross run.

Sorry JD, it's the way you write, you don't explain yourself properly. Tell me please, you claim to be a fountain of knowledge in the coursing world, what top match dogs have you seen run first hand if you don't mind me asking?

I am certainly not a fountain of knowledge in the coursing world. I have never said i was, so please don't put words in my mouth. I have, however, seen a few dogs run over the years. Just for the record, i have never owned a good coursing dog either, so, I do not make any claim to be anything other than a enthusiast of the saluki hybrid.

I'm sorry but i have no photos on my computer, so i cannot dig out very many coursing ones from the several thousand images i have of scores of dogs coursing. However, i did once see a good bitch run one day. I wouldn't want to think i was matching against her, but i would have the mortgage on her. Top class

It was, of course, pre-ban, but the bitch managed to get 4/4 if i remember correctly, the last of the day just prooved she was top class. The plough was being walked and with about 100 yards of it left to go before the winter wheat gave some slight relief to each 3 stone boot, weighed down with mud. Her Majesty jumped a mere twenty yards into the plough and the bitches owner slipped. Well, it seemed like a fools errand, the bitch had 100 yards of plough to travel and the hare a mere twenty yards. Surely this classy canine wouldn't get anywhere near. I was stood with the farmer and we both said "No Chance!" But that bitch floated across the plough, somehow kept her pilot sighted and then ate the ground up. By the time the hare had reached the end of the winter wheat field the bitch was about 15 yards behind. Then over onto kale, real wet, heavy going, the sort that tests a running dog, but suddenly the bitch was nailed to the hares scut like a shadow, spinning the hare into ever decreasing circles. From that there was no escape. Whiz, whiz, bang! The fat lady sang.... :victory: Some bitch. :notworthy: Modest owner too. :notworthy:

I have seen a couple of dogs run that i would call top class, and that aforementioned bitch is one of them. Problem was, I never saw how good her stamina was in those four hares that day because no hares lasted long enough to test her stamina.... :hmm:

This bitch is about 50 times better than anything I have ever owned...Now aint that the truth..... :)

Happy Rabbiting and Ratting....JD

Good read JD and respect. Sorry for the jibe regarding you being a fountain of knowledge but you were the one who presumed I'm a keyboard hunter which is fair enough, it's your perogative. Maybe you have been on here too long and put everyone you dislike in the same category, who knows. Or maybe it's my slating of your dear coursing friends that wrangles you. It would be a very poor site indeed if all we could do was read situations without being able to add to them. I've never pretended I've run the fens. Does this mean I can't question threads involving subjects which I haven't experienced but are close to experiences I have? I know most on here don't like me......edited to read.......

but I am going to endeavour to change my ways and refrain from slagging people.

Ok guys, sorry for interferring in your thread, wont happen again  If it's any consilation,(i know you couldn't give a f**k) I genuinely respect the guys who ran dogs in the Forley Cup. I was on a forum called the poachers rest and left respecting one of the founders on there, I'm sure you know who I'm talking about.

I went on the Poachers Rest made two comments ,neither of them rude ,or slating anyone ,got banned immediately ,it appears to be a forum just for feeding one man's ego.

I was not refering to you not having seen a collie cross run.

IT IS NOT JUST THE QUESTION OF SPEED, IT`S THE QUESTION OF HOW THE DOG USES IT`S SPEED. RUNNING ALL OUT ON A HARE & PUSHING IT ON TO GO IN FOR THE STRIKE WILL NOT WORK WHEN THE HARES GO UP A GEAR. CONSTANTLY PUSHING & STRIKING AT A STRONG HARE THAT HAS EXPERIENCE OF BEING RAN, ALLOWS THE HARE TO ANTICIPATE & EVADE THE DOG`S TACTIC OF SPEED THEN STRIKE. MORE ENERGY & EFFORT USED EQUATES A SHORTER COURSE & A DECENT HARE ESCAPING. DOG`S OF NOTE LEARN TO WORK THE HARE WHEN THEY ARE BEHIND IT NOT PUSH IT ON, WORKING THE HARE WHILST NEVER LOSING MUCH GROUND & THEN GO UP A GEAR WHEN THE HARE HAS MADE A MISTAKE OR THE DOG SEE`S IT`S CHANCE. DOG`S WHICH ARE "PLODDERS" AS WE HAVE SEEN SOME TERM THEM, ALSO REQUIRE THE ABILITY TO GO UP A GEAR & END THE COURSE. SIMPLY PUT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO "run every hare to death". RUNNING CONDITIONS ALSO PLAY A MAJOR PART. CAN YOUR DOG RUN PLOUGH? IS IT BETTER ON SEED? DOES IT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO RUN THE HEAVY GOING?? GOD IT WOULD BE A BORING WORLD IF THERE WAS A SIMPLE FORMULA TO PRODUCE.THE PERFECT LURCHER
