Knocker

Recommended Posts

Probably, if you're using them for a ferret then maybe it's handy (if not to cumbersome on a small ferret) but against todays locators not worth the effort.

I never had the larger cap but seen them used. Ahead of their time at the time.

The one thing I miss about the ol' knocker box was how instant they were at the bottom of a dig to a mute terrier.

You turned the dial and instantly you knew. Being so close to a terrier at the end is vital and not when I want to be waiting for a box to warm up.

But, then again, I'm ol' fashioned.

I somtimes leave the peips on at side of the dig or at least on send

Thats one thing i hated with the red brick it takes a while to calibrate

Yes it's a good habit to get into but when very near the end of a dig I've a habit of turning it off and throwing it in my pocket. It's easy to stand on one at the side of a dig, especially if lads get excited ,as some do, so into my pocket it goes, off too as I've often gone home with it on send and later on checking gear find it has been using the battery un-necessarily for hours.

But with the old grey box (I don't call them knockers. Knockers are a more beautiful thing) if you were in the end and needed to pin point a terrier it was instant.

Funny, but I remember a couple of lads when the new systems came out would have an old Deben collar and a new B+F collar on the terrier such was the reliance they had in the old one.

Two collars on one terrier !!!! One is dangerous enough, let alone two.

Pity we couldn't put something like a micro-chip in a terrier and locate it using that.

Maybe 22nd century terriermen will have them ,LOL.

If a terrier is micro chipped, would it be possible to pick up that chip by using a chip reader like the vets have but with a longer range? Is it the chip or the receiver that determines recognition?

Cheers, D.

Best leaving your pipes box on send when out Neil, if you lose it in cover of that then you can pick it up with another box seen it happen before

Just out of interest Mole, do you still use the old debens or just collect them ?

Anyone remember the original finders that took two caps ?

If you keep asking you should get sorted. At the end of the day most terriermen can get their hands on a knocker or two.
