think he was a very hard dog to take a line off i know a few who tried but failed , his blood worked well as a outcross to other lines from what i saw , i bred that black fox killer i posted about by breeding back to some smithy blood her and her brother where huge the dog was about 17inch and hard as iron he didn't last long the bitch 16inch was a fox killer and that's all , most of the lines died out or where bred out that i knew about in the -90's of coarse this is my limited experience ,

It's not the big mystery that old Gouldy likes to make out it is.A couple of pals of mine from Essex know the lads that Ken got the dog from and it's no big secret who bred the dog and who they got him from.

Picture of him in garden in Essex was probably in dagenham area dug with a pal who grew up there who seen the dog dug when he was a kid said he was a big dog as for sire and dam was told sire was a hard black and tan dog but that was just one claim no doubt someone who knows will be able to tell us all the truth lol

As most of you know I've not been in the game long but if I could have any terrier from the past it would be a Russell I had as a teenager his name was spot and would hunt every thing on top and under but at that stage I wasn't interested in digging

If I could have any dog back from the past it would be a dog I bred myself called Barney that I gifted to a good mate at the time-I bred a litter for myself from him to my tiny bitch.the last time I asked my pal if I could use him again ,he turned around and told me he sold him to some boys because he was on his arse-found the lads and told them the craic-even offered them a grand for my own dog back lol-they told me I could use him but when i rang the number they mugged me off and wouldn't answer the phone.you live and you learn.dog went and was dug 3 times the same day at just over a 12m old.on more than one occasion people offerd silly money for him before he'd even done a full season.they were politely told to f**k off-he's probably long gone now used and abused.like his sire he was some dog.f****d up my plans for the future but hopefully now I've another path to go down-so all is not lost.atb dc red dog barney.big bud his sire.

Your right there rob mate-I personally think he was cohearsed in to selling him to piss me off because I refused to let someone use him over a bitch and wouldn't give them a pup I bred from him-its water under the bridge now and I've moved on-I was gifted my first pup this summer and will make the most of him-fortunately now I have access to some well bred dogs through a few lads that have been real good to me.they know who they are-it's a strange game we are in-some folks can't bare the thought that you have better dogs than them and never had to lick arse so to speak to get them.I'm more than happy with what I have in my kennels and long may it continue lol.atvb dc

Be very careful who you trust & call friends. I learned that lesson the hard way, have 2 digging buddies now who I can safely say I trust100%....someone asked what makes a true terrierman. When it comes to a true digging partner IMO Honesty,Loyalty & Trustworthyness are a 'Must' before digging ability, stockmanship, knowledge or experience! Afterall you are trusting each other with the line & earths ye work!
