greg64 2,850
Out hunting the other week and the farm is split in two, two brothers with half each...Who don't speak to each other. If the brothers want to follow hounds they do half a day each so they don't have to ride near each other split the farm in two sounds like Steptoe and son when they split the house in two .even the telly

Lab 10,979
Aye they are a funny breed. Years ago when I was part of a very small shooting syndicate a cracking wee pond/marsh was just off the boundary. It held a few pheasant, snipe and duck. One day you'd be allowed to walk it and then the next you'd be told to keep off it. In the end you just don't go near it.
bird 9,977
There all mental!! your prob right mate, lol it because I've worked on farms for years and they are all the same . They spend nearly all their life in isolation and don't have many social skills so don't know how to talk to people . One that I worked for was an absolute nightmare. He was only a little fella but he used to scream and shout at everybody who he came in to contact with over the slightest things . To this day I don't know how he never got filled in . Another one I worked for was a woman who had took over the farm after her dad died . She used to fall out with other farmers and relatives for fun and the amount of staff she went through was unreal with most only lasting a day or two. If she did something wrong it was always your fault aswell. it because there all inter bred , you look at most farmers , they never marry outside there family circles , its cousin to cousin or 2nd cousin etc, never anybody out there circle ,and as been said greed biggest prob with them, the old saying very rare to see a poor farmer even today , forget the bullshit they tell you , they got feckin grants for nearly everything today

beamish78 142
Its no wonder there cranky, must get fed up of answering the door, phone, text`s,letters from people wanting permission for this and that, most round this way only talk to the people they trust, having learned the hard way what people will do to screw you over. If she did something wrong it was always your fault aswell. I would agree with this. They just don't get out. Often they are generations into farming and don't move out of farming circles, The job is physically and mentally demanding, dealing with death and disappointment. Hardened to collecting dead lambs, and seen as heartless by the general public, despite spending hours trying bring through weak animals or birds. So it is easy to see why they have this us and them mentality. Add to this the fly tipping, burnt out cars in bridle ways, vandalism, theft, sheep worrying, etc. Anyone strange near their land is associated with these acts. In my locality, there are three big farms then the rest is split amongst smallholders, hobby farmers and people with big gardens that were once fields. They all resent each other. Usually, it is land grabbing, or livestock run loose. But come a crisis. The farmers/smallholders club together. I don't think anyone likes the 'gardens from fields' types. That is proper heresy.
