Nik_B 3,790
Been dry over a year now! I was becoming a nasty drunk, just miserable and snappy. I thought if it is not agreeing with you don't do it. Feel lots better and getting decent sleep! One thing I've noticed in the last couple of years is that if I drink I get a really bad nights sleep and keep waking up all the time. We're also not drinking at the moment, since the missus quit her job we're down to living on my wage so it just seems like a massive waste of money. Between that and the cigarettes I dread to imagine what we used to spend every year.

eastcoast 4,118
Modern society will always agree that becoming T total is good thing. Certainly shouldn't do you any harm. But apart from the folk that have let it become a problem then I wouldn't automatically agree. We need to look after the soul as well as the body. I have always enjoyed a drink and a smoke ( the old fashioned type of smoking, just tabs ) and it has never had an adverse effect on my personal or professional life or health. Quite the opposite I would say. Having a drink is one the many things that make life an enjoyable and fulfilling experience . Admittedly these days it's more a case of opening a bottle of wine and smoking a couple of Silk Cut after the day's business is done rather than having a good few pints in a bar and doing in a packet of Regal. Bessie Braddock MP " Winston you are drunk, and what's more you are disgustingly drunk !" Churchill " My dear you are ugly, and what's more you are disgustingly ugly. Tomorrow I shall be sober but you will still be disgustingly ugly !" And yes, the day's business has been done ;-)
Blackbriar 8,569
It's said that every cigarette takes 10 minutes off your life expectancy, and every time you're pi55ed, you lose 6 minutes. I've worked out that I died 8 years ago.......
