Week two of the yank trip

Recommended Posts

Well second week of the trip we went over to Colorado to meet up with two hunting lads that kye and F.R. know to go up to Wyoming on a coursing trip, on the way to Colorado the lads who we were meeting up with rang us and let us know that a snow storm was heading into Wyoming with about 6ft of snow that was going to fall! But we weren't happily going to turn home as we had been on the road for 3 hours and the car was packed out with hunting gear and we were all excited about this coursing trip. We carried on into Kansas on the bleak long roads mile after mile and nothing was changing in the countryside. Kye had a call from the fella in Colorado saying that he had sorted out a coyote hunting trip in south Wyoming we were all buzzing when we heard the news. We finally got to Colorado after a 12 hour drive all night thanks to F.R.‘s driving for getting us there as kye was asleep the majority of the night like an old lady. We got some breakfast and checked into a motel.

Saturday morning came around fast and we meet up with the two other fellas at 10 am and headed to meet this coyote hunter that none of us had ever meet only one of them had spoken to him on the phone previously and he was more than happy to hook us up with a trip out, what a kind offer and guarnted some coyotes a big statement by all means. So we left Colorado and headed north to Wyoming, on the way we saw herds of mule deer and prong horn antelopes and the odd jack rabbit and a lot of red tail hawks. The country side changed drastically to very flat open fields with out a tree in sight perfect for the running dogs. After a few hours drive we found the ranch type dinner where we meet the coyote hunter with his grandson and a drop box full of dogs. We went to his house sorted out the dogs and loaded up some of our dogs into a drop box. We got on the snowy roads with the hope of yotes in our sight that we could run. We managed to spot 6 and caught 2. One with the a 10 year old dog shown in a picture below the fawn dog in the box that KNEW his job and dealt with it like the pro he was, the next one was pulled by the old fawn dog and some of the dogs owned by the lads from Colorado. We ran a few rabbits that night on the lamp and stayed with the yote hunter that night. We got out around 8 the next day and managed to get another yote that morning with kyes dogs that did very well on it. We called it a day after one more as the day was getting on.

On the long drive home we dropped into some permission F.R. had a long way from home, We saw a fox in the trucks head lights so we spun the truck around with the dog on my lap and the lamp ready, we spotted the fox at around 60yards in the field and drop the dog, Once the dog spotted the fox the chase was on this dog has caught a load of day time hares but by christ this type of fox can run as the dog straight lined him and went to strike at him the fox just tuned on a right angel making an experienced hare dog a bit confused, The fox was off again this had happened about 9 or so time until and the dog finally managed to pick up this awesome running critter. From what me kye and F.R. said about this type of fox was the best running quarry we'd ever seen run! Hats off to it for being such a good bit of sport.

Finally got back home after a 2084.9 mile road trip we were all happy and every moment i loved it !!!

A thanks to F.R. and Kye and the coyote hunter for sorting out the trip!

glad you had a great time. sorry about the skunk we been trying to get rid of them for years just can't seem to get anyone to hunt them full time something about the aroma i guess. who knows they seem easy enough to catch. to bad you didn't catch a cat i would love to see how a running dog handled that. nice pics too
