Saluki246 1,053
I think pures and their crosses are best at this from what i seen coursing, pre-ban. Not seen many lurchers without saluki cross in them, that can box as clever as a pure saluki or its cross. Some good collie crosses seem to do good, espacially with a drop of deerhound blood, but i think the pures and the likes are better, but i am sure their out their, just have not seen them myself. Just my opinion, whats all yours? Quote Link to post

marshman 7,758
A mate of mine bought a saluki had all the right breeding but was in a pet home until it was two . It hadn't even seen a rabbit anyway had it summer took it coursing. Fist hare up slips the dog, hare runs one way saluki runs the other to a gate and lays down all the lads are smirking. The hare gets to the hedge then runs down towards the gate . The saluki jumps and boxes the hare like a pro. Without a doubt the best dogs for it is a saluki they're just naturals jmho 1 Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
Not really done much coursing, but what's meant by the term boxing? Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,773
Not really done much coursing, but what's meant by the term boxing? Boxing is when a dog gets between a hare and a hedge/wood or other cover and tries to keep the hare contained until the time is right for a strike 3 Quote Link to post

Animal using its brain saluki bred ta catch live game seen other xes box collie types seem ta come through when generation bred generation bred animals of the herders shepherds do seem ta throw the odd boxing type runner its born in em experience and lots of running game brings it out in em. A quality so many desire in there runners. And lots don't get purist watching the the long ears trying to out wit the runner now that's sheer. Pleasure what Eva the outcome.atb bunnys. 1 Quote Link to post
DogFox123 1,379
Not really done much coursing, but what's meant by the term boxing? It's when a dog hasn't got the speed to catch the Hare and just tries to block it's escape..... Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
A dog thats done a lot of hares will box, no all but most that have the speed will do it, some dogs(slow dogs) will just chase ... Quote Link to post

If it was all about speed we'd all have greyhounds and whippet greys if it was all about stamina we'd all have pure Salukis you need just the right mix of both to kill good hares regularly in my opinion. 1 Quote Link to post

It's when a dog hasn't got the speed to catch the Hare and just tries to block it's escape..... I'm a bit confused by your posts mate. In the 'pure saluki' thread you slagged salukis and coursing bred dogs off for 26 pages. Then in the 'fast dogs' thread you stated you'd like a pup from jigsaw's dog, which is a 1st x saluki/grey. And now in this thread you slag them off again. 3 Quote Link to post
leethedog 3,071
Never heard it called boxing but seen plenty of lurcher that knew how to keep the game out of cover don't think it's a saluki thing or a collie thing either it's like has been said it's putting enough game of what ever type in front of your dog and it having a modicum of brain to stop it's escape into cover 1 Quote Link to post
