Aaron 3
My self and a friend with his terrier were out with the local hunt today when a fox was run to ground on the land of which I have permission. The registered terrierman had already worked two of his tykes earlier in the day so my friend asked if he might enter his border/Lakeland. The terrierman turned round and said that we were not licensed (by the M.F.H.A) nor did we have written permission of the landowner. I didn’t want to question him as it would of probably just p**sed him off. I would just like to know how many of you are 'Licensed Terriermen' especially if you help or do the digging for a hunt. donnyc 1,203
haha f**k sake whats the world coming too a proper terrier man would just have turned around and said work away lad and if any questions where asked he would have said it was his dog to keep people out of trouble ! there might have bein alot of people there so i can understand why he cant allow it two reasons: reason 1; He might have not wanted to bein showen up! 2; He might not have known what the dog was like to work ie was he hard because if he was to hard he could kill in the burrow and ye dont be wanting that to happen! 2 that often happens no big deal . wink hound 0
i dont think theres many terriermen who would just let someone try their dog. i ahve lots of good mates with some ok dogs.... but they WONT even think of bringing them out on a hunt day, and if you want to go further with your local terrierman, nor should you. in theory he could of worked your dog for you to get over the licsense thing, but that kind of irrelevant. there are ALOT better ways to get in there with your local man Quote Link to post

wink hound 0
so then you would know the situation with the terriers and terrierman...... i can only get info from what you put mate. and i can only assume that your replationship with the terrierman would not be the greatest or the issue of using your dog would of come up before. im not arguing with you, no one should even think about using a dog on a hunt day without already talking the terrierman, hounds at a mark is not the place to be asking even the most level headed of terriermen. i should think if you used your sister as an avenue to approach the terrierman and perhaps offer a hand in other ways your chance may inprove slightly. however if its your permission i would think really it would be up to the land owner of where you were...... but you still need written permssion with you at all times when on that land hunt or no hunt. it really depends how strong YOUR permission for that area is. hope that helps. burnie69 376
There's also a few terrierman out there who shouldn't even have a licence it works both ways. Quote Link to post
Moby 0
There's also a few terrierman out there who shouldn't even have a licence it works both ways. [/quote got to agree with you on that one pal.i have been to earths after the hunt have been and they have been totaly trashed, digs half backfilled and there must have been 6 or 7 digs on this earth.just because they have a licence does not make them any better than the next man. wink hound 0
dont think any hunt terrierman should say there were moby (would be a sad day when they say they were), its like all things you get good and bad, and in this case different. but at the same time working for the hunt (good or bad) almost acts as their 'permission' so is closley guarded. Moby 0
i had to go round to the farm winkhound to make sure he didnt think it was me.he confirmed the hunt had been there.this is not the first time it has happened over the last few months.been digging on this place for a long time never seen anything of the like before on this spot, and it was hunted regular so they may of got a new terrierman, its to be hoped he has been sacked or they will not be hunting it again if the same happens again, the farmer was not a happy bunny. Regards Aaron The estate we do the digging on used to have the most laid back keeper I've ever known. He disliked the local hunt due to trouble in the past & the terriermans habit of leaving foxes to ground that would take more than 30mins to dig. He'd make sure we were there when they hunted. He always asked us to take the lurchers & tell us the best places to position ourselves. He would take his shotgun. The followers, staff didn't like us but so what? Only once did hunt staff try & tell us to stay away from a dig but that was the first & last. The gamekeeper passed away & we've had several since but none came anywhere near him in terms of dedication. Quote Link to post
