norseman 424
Just some questions on needles. I use an 8" needle for making purse nets, but i was wondering does a 10" still pass through the 1" rings when fully loaded? and do you get much more on to the needle? For instance would it do a 3' 6" net from start to finish? Quote Link to post
Jax13 251
I can just get a 3'6" net from spun poly on an 8" needle with a 2" mesh board (two 9's then up in 1's to 5 rows of 16 then back down in 1's to 2 x 9's again) I personally use the slightly bigger rings, not sure if they are +1/8 or +1/4 because I think the extra weight helps in windy weather and they purse up really quickly too. One thing you could do is tie off half a dozen rings down to row #2 with an 8" needle then switch onto a 10"needle for making larger nets. I tend to just use 8" needles though and if I'm doing a bigger net just tie a new needle on. Any spare after a net is finished just starts a new net (or its used to finish off a patchwork one made from all the waste. My record is a 3' net made of 7 pieces!) Naw no problem, just curious as i only have the one needle, but I didnt know weather to buy a 10 or another 8". I just think it will be handier to have a few loaded needles rather than stopping to reload the same one. Cheers, I'll probably just get a few more 8" then to be honest. I use some bigger rings myself, have a shitload of 1 1/4" curtain rings. real good quality too Quote Link to post
Jax13 251
I'm running 3 x 8" ones at the moment and have 4 more started using the leftovers from the needles (rattled off 18 nets in the last week) but have ordered another 3 so I can load more in one hit because I don't mind making nets but hate loading needles with a passion so if I can do more in a session to get it done and out of the way I'm all for it! I ordered a set of 3 x 8" ones on Amazon for just under 3 quid, if they are decent enough quality I'll probably order another 3 to avoid loading for longer! 1 Quote Link to post
