novice 25
Has anyone had any success with using plastic window planters as tunnels for fenns. Sure I'd seen it mentioned on here or elsewhere. Hole in either end and you've a weatherproof well dimensioned tunnel. Seems a good idea on paper but would welcome first hand accounts Novice 2 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
Yes,..used them in their dozens for the grey squirrels... Cheap and cheerful, same as the plastic ice cream containers, that the Master Trapper turned me onto,.they were deadly.. 1 Quote Link to post
novice 25
Thanks for the response Phil. Curiously enough the ground I've got in mind hasn't got a significant squirrel population. Most likely customers will be mink and perhaps stoat/weasel. Have you had any luck with these species, even as incidentals when focussing on squirrel? Novice Quote Link to post
novice 25
Out of interest, can you recall the size you used? Novice Quote Link to post
novice 25
I'm guessing you can also dig them in as required to ensure the optimum clearance on the roof to avoid the target being thrown clear of the trap? Novice Quote Link to post

Novice The concept is just the same....successful trapping is all about sensible positioning... Maybe ,..cut a slice into the floor, allowing the pan to be level with the ground,..a jump stick, placed just in front of the killing bars will generally get the target species, leaping onto the pan. . 2 Quote Link to post
novice 25
Thanks Phil. Intention is for a focused campaign in the spring so will hopefully post about my experiences on here. Novice 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,493
With the plastic window boxes you can cut a bit of wood to fit the base, the top when its set and drill a screw down at each end then when the trap goes off it lifts the wood and you can see the screws and know the traps sprung with out bending to look 1 Quote Link to post
