Squirrel_Basher 17,100
I've always wondered why the fell terrier is not used over whippets instead on the poodle hybrid known as the bedlington. The mother of my first every lurcher was a black fell X whippet and she looked just like a black whippet. And FD we mightn't be Gods but we do tend to be realistic when it comes to raising pups that have a good chance of making the grade. Hence the reason Beddies, Plummers and Borders are scarce in Ireland. We let the dreaming be done over your side. From reading various posts mate i think you have your fair share of dreamers over there too and the black dog, whilst mine and yours preference is just a colour .To write off another breed in another mans yard is foolhardy. Good and bad in all of them mate as im sure you are aware . 4 Quote Link to post

jiggy 3,209
If you can find a working beddy then it would be ideal but it's rare to even see a show bred one over here I've only seen a handful in my life and all were show type with the equivalent of a gay hairdresser type walking them around. Better chance of sourcing a worker in the U.K. for a stud it might be effort well spent. 2 Quote Link to post

Regarding dreaming ? I dream of sexy women but when awake I think of little else other than hunting. The same as most terriermen, LOL. (I hope) Quote Link to post
danny300 2,240
Am no expert when it comes to lurchers kept a few over the years mostly deerhound & collie crosses. When I was young there was always some Irish terrier lurchers knocking about, never saw 1 work. Dont see many now. Probably speaks volumes but were they any good? If so would your pal not be better off with this cross...throw same attributes as a beddie but with more fire in the belly if he wanted to do a bit of foxing? Theres still a few Irish terrier crosses about i gave a dog down to Mr scent of here last year and hes smashing foxes. I was busy working and he was not getting the work he needed. Heres a photo of him when he was younger 2 Quote Link to post

I used to think the same Neil regarding terriers ,thought id seen it all ,thought blacks were the only type worth keeping .I was blinkered to the extreme and only knocked about with lads who had blacks but these last few seasons past ive been lucky enough to hunt with a few lads who keep something different and only a fool wouldnt admire both men and dogs . As for sexy women ,they tend to dream about me . 4 Quote Link to post

The black ones are my choosen type but I know there's lads keeping white terriers who have bigger tally's than I do and could show me a thing or two. But I do think I'm right when I say that after the lads who have good black terriers and those who keep good proper white terriers that those who keep other types are "usually" playing second fiddle.
