HBG 350
cracking night [bANNED TEXT] how do u call them in i dont mate,we drive along the roads lamping off the back of the van, when we see 1 in a possition to get a run we stop, the dogs know then there's a fox there they jump out of van and over the fence or gate then get on to it.i find this the quickest way to catch foxes mate without driving in the fields. Guest Nightwalker
Why use two dogs the size of those to kill one little fox? I have always found that you get fewer injuries to the dogs using one dog rather than two, provided that the one dog is up to the task in hand. I think that two dogs tend to get in the way of each other. The only exception to this is with muntjac bucks where I think that using two dogs can sometimes save serious injury but a 40 or 50lb muntjac buck is dangerous and can seriously injure or kill a dog whereas a 12-14lb fox can only give a big dog like yours a few nips. Not had many muntjac but i've had a couple and a 40-50lb one would be something a bit special i would think don't get many roe that big round hear  They are pretty variable in size, I have weighed all my deer for years (ever since picking up a 300lb Salter balance at a car boot sale), most top out at about 35lb but I've had several bucks over 40lbs but even the little buggers can make a real mess of your dog. I guess if they get really hammered they probably dont live long enough to reach their full potential size wise. No-one does anything much about the deer on the places where I have had these, we've had some mild winters and they dont even seem to carry as many ticks as the roe and fallow and we have also got some real stonking big roe on the same patch including a couple of medal class bucks. A mate of mine who is a big stalking man shot a huge muntjac buck on the Bucks/Berks border over christmas, I always weigh mine with the guts in whereas he guts all his immediately so I cant tell you what it would have weighed with the guts in but I saw it hung up in his barn and I guess it would have gone to over 50lbs- easily the biggest munty I have seen but unfortunately one antler and one tusk were both damaged so no real trophy.
