'Forced to flee' says the Mirror!!! Surely anyone 'heckling' could have been put straight pretty easily on what the black faces are all about?

I watched the whole clip and didn't hear one boo or heckle. I actually quite enjoyed it, and it didn't look nearly as gay as I thought it would ?

I've never seen a blacked up Morris dancer, they were always in whites when I grew up in Dorset.

When you grew up we hadnt been invaded and our country over run.

So you reckon these blacked up Morris dancers are a reaction to multicultural Britain?

You fecking doughnut  try learning about your own culture and heritage ;)

There was a load of paddys round my way the other day dressed in Liverpool and Man Unt shirts........racist b*****ds !

My understanding is that the tradition dates back to at least the 16th century. They blacked their faces to avoid being identified. Spectators would give them money, but the authorities could accuse them of begging, which was a capital offence, at the time.

that what i heard true, so the blacking of there faces is just part of tradition . But lets think about this for few secs lol, feckin Brum it full of real back /brown faces no paint, only war paint lol. i was born in wolves =wolverhampton , its spot the white man now haha .No i think they could have picked better place to dance than Brum, carnt think any places in the UK now, only ( timbuktu ) :D

Ray not often if ever I disagree with you but I do this time , I'd not be interested in bull fighting but if I lived in Spain I'd except its tradition and keep Stum . Edited by lanesra

To me, the point is that they black their face(s) as part of an age old tradition. They don't do it to mock or mimic black people.....

Incidentally, the people doing the protesting weren't even black - they were young 'Asian' men !

Absolutely, so where were the police, to protect a group practising a tradition in their own land that goes back deep into our past, can you imagine the level of response by the law if a group of English people started heckling and threatening a group of ethnics carrying out a traditional dance/celbration important to their culture,in an English town centre, but no as usual they are nowhere to be seen when it comes to protecting their own folk.
