nothernlite 18,138
True mate always better having ferrets when your bringing a pup on Quote Link to post
troyboy17 632
But how hard if your dog is an adult Quote Link to post
Moja 111
No excuse, you know your getting a pup so either source a ferret or lend a big hob of a mate. As soon as the pups in the house, introduce them and get the 100%, I'm not a ferreting person myself but always break my dogs to them cause how knows what's round the corner. Invites, work, permission, or just get back into the ferreting game 2 Quote Link to post

Moja 111
Unfortunately the common sense flower is not in everyone's garden! Quote Link to post

bird 10,014
I used to years ago when I kept stinkers , it was a must any pup that I had back then. But I was not over the top in doing it though . my 2 dogs now, ive never had to , because once they see a ferret box, and the ferrets are taken out, they know what going to happen .They deff know what a ferret is, even though I don't keep them, and they never been brought up with them . Infact ive had few lads say how good there are around them , I went with tomo and vin took old Bryn , he marked 25 rabbits that day, was round ferret all day long , he never botherd with them, same as Buck once he sees ferret they know what the job is that day . I never let them play with either as pups , I taught them to respect the ferret , and the dog new they were part of team that day. some people might do thing different and let the pup interact with the ferret , play /feed from same dish etc, which is ok, I never did none of that. I just took a pup out to have a look what was going on that day hunting , they soon learned a ferret different to a rabbit no prob . and did the same as my 2 dogs now and there great at ferreting do good job, and they not brought up with stinkers .!! 1 Quote Link to post
keepitcovert 842
Can never understand anyone not breaking their dogs to ferrets, even if ferreting aint your thing. I love the way my dogs look at them when they surface, totally blanking them, Funny little incident last week, dogs were mooching from one net to another when a rat came ambling out at first i thought it was a ferret till i took a proper look, my lurcher must have thought the same, suddenly she did a double take and shot in and ragged the life out of it, Quote Link to post
Wellieburn Wilson 33
I'm the same, don't break the pup in as such just take them out when still young as don t have ferrets myself but a mate has, they soon realise what a ferrets for and to leave alone. Quote Link to post
