Boerboel

Recommended Posts

my oldest brother has had rottweillers for many years, and recently lost one of his old boys. he has decided to go for something a bit different, and has been talking to claymore kennels about booking a boerboel pup.

anyone had any experience of the breed, or this particular kennel? are they anything like rottweillers or do they need different handling

thanks

??????? really..........I want two then

To shame in what aspect. How quick does a guard dog need to be.A man isn't going to outrun the slowest of mastiffs.

I was told they racists ?

I was very tempted quite a few years back and I was speaking with a breeder in Carmarthen who's blood lines came from South Africa and holland ... they need a firm hand without bullying as a dog that big and powerful needs to learn discipline and she refused to sell a dog who was wishy washy lovey Dovey type as she reckoned the dog would just take the piss out of those types of dog owners ... they are very loyal and apparently once they have bonded to you ... you can walk down the busiest street and the dog will stick to you like glue without a lead on ... very protective towards family and their home .......

Only know of one person ever having one. The same man told me if he was ever to have another, he would buy a shotgun before he bought a lead.

Apparently he's kicked off one day, got pts the next day................suppose that could happen with any breed though, but most breeds don't grow to almost 100kg

All being said I think they are big handsome beasts.............Think you would need plenty of experience with large dogs before taking one on tbh

spot on Ken, my mate got a bitch pup, it was from a breeder in London , there going for £ 16-1800 quid . very loyal dogs his bitch is 12 months old 110lb like a feckin tank, the dogs can go up 14st . there are like in my mind big bullmastiffs , and like all big heavy breeds rotties, bullmastiffs , etc they (all) suffer with HD and other limb/joint probs  , it was one of the reasons back in the 80s when I had bullmastiffs , that I came out of the breed , was fed up of being down the vets with one thing or other , and a nother thing a lot of the big breeds are not long lived 8-9 years .They are deff great guards not over vocal but will deff use there teeth , bitches are great with family's , dogs can be like all males bit dominate . I think I might go for a ridgeback as guard there good guards and lot more healthier , but again these big ped dogs will put a hole in your back pocket none are cheep , better of with old farm collie x gsd type thing lol, them buggers will bite when you go round any farm lol

Bloke in the area ( see him over the fields and got chatting to him as you do ) has a dog from this 'claymore' kennels ......... his dog is a f*cking BEAST and had nothing but good stuff to say about the breeders!!

Sitting here chuckling to myself as remember, was pushed for time one evening before I started work and thought I'd give the dog a quick run over the field before I lock him up for the night when I bumped into this guy with his boerboel, friendly as f*ck it is ( outside the home ) the b*****d thing COVERED me in slobber ...... wouldn't mind but I was ready for work ?

They don't all suffer from dysplasia. If you seek out stock from health tested parents they are no worse than any other breed.

I'd prefer a kengal over a boer mainly for health reasons ....but if it was solely for purpose of guarding then I'd go for one of either,Alsatian,GSD,Dutch shepherd would be first choice
