Nik_B 3,790 Posted January 3, 2017 Report Share Posted January 3, 2017 If an aircraft is mainly made from composites and aluminium which are all softer than steel and concrete I can't imagine how they would penetrate and destroy the concrete and steel pillars. I'm not an expert but I understand that the Mohs hardness scale should be applicable....like shooting lead bullets doesn't penetrate a steel plate. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Nik_B 3,790 Posted January 3, 2017 Report Share Posted January 3, 2017 The official theory is that fuel that wasn't ignited in the explosion (didn't it all get ignited?) poured down the central columns and melted hardened steel which then buckled and eventually collapsed. Another theory I saw was the aluminium aircraft started burning, aluminium burns at a very high temperature and melted the cores....
