Popular Post FUJI 17,102
New year's day 2017 was the day I could only ever have dreamed of bringing my big dog Boots back onto the battlefield but that's exactly what did happen.Only 26 days after he suffered an horrific injury to his wrist which in nigh on 40 years of keeping running dogs I'd never encountered the like of before we went back to where we have made some of the greatest memories both he & I have ever had in regards to hunting. My eldest lad Frankel off here accompanied us with his bitch Gypsy & of course my sidekick Ruby the Pom,I wasn't fussed about catching anything infact being honest I never thought we would, all I wanted to see was my big dog working & more importantly returning home with all 4 legs on the ground & although on occasions I did see him slightly holding up his injured leg it's nothing new to see him or any dog feeling sore when working the fells & this morning I was greeted by him as boisterous as ever & as if he were on coiled springs,he was as good as brand new!! I am as happy as a pig in shit, things haven't been the same going to war without him at my heel but things will be back to normal just now.I have a couple of places I need to check high up on the tops so will check them out this week with old one eyed Don & Ruby & if the gear on the ground is there as I hope it to be then I will return with the heavy ammo lol.My lads bitch Gypsy is very tight coated & she really feels the wet & cold wind,up there the ground is nothing short of swamplike in most places & when I say the wind was ice cold that's probably understating it!! She was not best impressed with the conditions of the day that's for sure but she carried on regardless & will of learnt plenty from the day.We were up the fells for 4 hours plus & personally I was glad to get back to the motor it was pretty hard going up there but it always is I suppose? We never caught anything but yesterday wasn't about that,it was an introduction for Gypsy as to where & more importantly what was up there to interest her & far more importantly to see how Boots fared working the fells after his layoff..I enjoyed the new year hike, fingers crossed I have the big dog coming back to the peak of health now, anything & everything else was/is just a bonus for now when out hunting without him with me..When he's 100% right I can guarantee he will put the run to catch ratio almost equal. It was good to be back & it was fantastic to see my Boots dog greet me this morning in rude health & looking tip top ? 24 Quote Link to post

FUJI 17,102
Glad the big fellah's back on his feet {All of them}, Great scenery and good way to bring the new year in! What was that was up with wrist Andy? After all the running he's done over the years on the fells he done his wrist on a bowling green of a field, you just couldn't write it lol..his wrist was swollen so bad it was between golf ball & tennis ball size,it was horrendous to look at but there wasn't a chance I or anyone could get a feel of it,he was in agony..I treat him for 3 consecutive days on Metacam then left him medication free for 10 days then 3 more consecutive days of Metacam, from day one I put him the Portamag box twice daily on number 2 for a week, then number 3 for a week then onto number 4 for a week, all treatment just half hourly..I had visions of him being totally knackered but he's on the right road hopefully now..Won't be long until he can enjoy the spring & summer break which I'm sure will do him the world of good ? 1 Quote Link to post
