king 11,984
Hi all I'm after some info. Right my young lad had the above gun for xmas. He has his first squirrel yesterday lovely head shot about 30yds. Right we've got a tin of bsa interceptor 4.5mm pellets. But they seem to drop into the barrel with ease with only a tiny bit of skirt sitting proud and a little touch and they are seated ready to be shot. They seem to small to me and thought a more snug fitting pellet was preferred What size pellet size would you reccomend. 4.51 or 4.52 Aa field I'm going to be buying for him After reading good reviews on them Cheers king. charlie caller 3,654
Try some H&N field target trophy mate, usually a top pellet in Germanic rifles, and also some H&N Baraccuda hunter extreme, (get a sample pack off the bay) my old HW77 loved em, they are a deadly pellet in .177 through the right rifle. 1 Quote Link to post

Jonjon79 13,358
With a squirrel head shot at 30yrds, the ones he's using sound pretty good I've never had an HW80 but, my .177 HW97 seems to like a soft lead pellet in 4.52. It does well with Falcon Accuracy Plus and JSB Heavies. Get him to try some 5 or 10 shot groups at paper at different ranges - this'll help him find the right pellet for his rifle. king 11,984
It was great standing next to him watching the squirrel then bang. Head shot he said. and fair play he brought it back and it certainly was a head shot. The wife bought him a target holder and 100 targets. Once I get him some new pellets he can compare them. 1 Quote Link to post

Rez 4,961
I'd second CC's post. FTT's. They're as tight as a ducks arse though. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
As you say if he is head shooting squirrels at 30 yards prob not a lot wrong with the pellets he is using, but its always worth a bit of pellet testing. Quote Link to post
