Kieren Ritchie. It works well. One thing to remember (among many) when the fish are running, generally the cock follows the hen, therefore you take the front fish first and then have a dram or two waiting for the cock fish to come over the plate. If you get lucky get the hell away from there and collect your booty the following day, They can't get you for possession if you don't have the tools in your motor. 'I found them lying there' is as good as you give and they will defo confiscate but at least your not going in front of the beak. Jok.

Usually see some nice size trout hanging about at the end of the gravel bed waiting for some nice eggs.

Gilbert. Put one in shallow water, wait till dark then try to find it without a lamp. Not such a give away then pal. Jok.

thanks for reply, only ever heard of people walking banks with a torch/lamp and away, did you watch plates untill dark and was that your only fishing area? Could of been fish lying above and below, sounds as risky as netting.

Got caught this morning on some cracking local fields (just having a look to see if there was still a healthy rabbit population). The land was adjacent to a public footpath and I know that I shouldn't be there.

The landowner noticed me and jumped out of his tractor and politely asked that I don't exercise my dog on his fields in the day but told me that he would like me to come on at night Lamping to sort out his rabbit problem!

Happy days!! I'm going to have a look tonight! Happy New Year lads!

no bother, likely the lads further down weren't clued up, generations of kids have hammered the rivers and becks round home with no hassle, shame really

This goes back to the early 80s me and a mate were lamping some land near to where we lived, quite familiar to us. About one in the morning we were shining the lamp across the field when my mate said turn it off theres a landy coming. Now the older guys on here will know you could spot a landrover at night from half a mile away, because of the headlights being that bit higher and really close together, all keepers than used to drive the old series2 or 3. Any way it came down the road and suddenly turned onto the track which led to the field we were on. We had a good 200yds to run to the nearest ditch, so we started to leg it, the ground was fairly soft and soon started to clog our boots, meanwhile the landy was gaining ground and it looked like the game was up. I suddenly remembered the ground at the bottom of the field used to flood at times, and we made a beeline for it. Hell it felt like we were running on treacle as they were catching up on us, next thing you could hear the engine revving as they dug into the soft ground and came crawling to a halt, we made the ditch and jumped across the dog in front and me carrying a bloody small car battery, no modern gear then. Next thing a shotgun went off over our heads and we ran into some nearby allotments, we found an open shed and jumped in lungs burning and gasping for breath. We sat in there trying to be quiet and hoping the dog would not give us away. We could hear two of them talking and moving about on the other side of the hedge, as they passed by my mate started to giggle like a little kid, which set me off to, i really thought we had blown it, but after half an hour we crept out and made our getaway, we still laugh about this today, and wonder how we got away with it.
