FKOF 371
For some reason people think if a dog has beagle blood in it it will fuk of for miles ? this aimed at me because I said I wouldn't own a dog with more than 1/4 begal in for working small patches ? Why not 3/8 or 1/8? Quote Link to post

Guest Navek
I personally wouldn't want anything with more than 1/4 begal in it INCASE it held a line wich I wouldn't want and wouldn't have any use for . Truth of the mater Is I like heavily spaniel blooded dogs so I'm biased towards them .most lads I no who have begal blood are for working bigger land . After all aren't bengals bred to follow hot or cold scent the same as larger hounds ? Truth of the mater is the old woman's bow legged one eyed jack tussle x at top the street could bush rabbits out at range of 50 yards so there no need to add bull begal or spaniel blood for wat I want but after all it's personal preference of what any man wants in his Kennle , not once on here av I said any specific dog Is the be all to end all of bushers . I just give my opinion and my opinion is this I like the bull cocker is it best bushing dog ever ? Probably not ? Do I need a lot of begal blood in a dog I want to work in a 50 yard range no probably not ? Could I give a flying f**k what any man keeps in his kennels ? No definitely not ! You boys work what works for you and everyone else what works for them . Don't think anyone trying to reinvent the wheel here if it works and you like it crack on , me personally I'd choose good bull blood over good pat terrier blood .. would anyone else ??? Don't no don't care . You boys have s good xmass and a god new year . Quote Link to post

squab 2,875
iv noticed with my own and few others iv seen that the spaniel/terriers dont tend to go deep in areas of large cover. theres one place i go that has bit cover probably about acre in size i know for a fact they aint worked that whole patch when they come out,if they get on something they will follow on obviously no matter how deep the cover is but they seem to have this in built stray meter which brings them back in to you rather than range out doing their own thing. most the land i hunt you can walk around and along the cover while the dogs work it up so never seen it as a problem..........but for the odd area of large heavy cover maybe touch beagle in the mix would put that right, 1 Quote Link to post
FKOF 371
Interesting post squab, I find the terrier spaniel beagles, will range in big covers and also work hedgerows in front of you nicely till they get on a scent, they don't travel like a pure hound and usually loose them after a field or two depending on scent and can be called back easy enough. Guest Navek
Maybe so, I'm not doubting that there's not a need/use for begal blood in a busher. I bet there's lads out there wth beagle blooded bushers that are as well behaved as full spaniels and don't range out to far ....I suppose having that extra scenting ability of the beagle would be a benifit in large thick heavy cover as long as it didn't range out to far .....and knowing my luck I'd end up with one that was deaf as a post when on scent lol ... Squad how much beagle blood did that black bitch of squirrels have in the one that Fox pack took on for a bit ? Didn't he have a problem with that going deaf on scent ?? I might be wrong so apologies in advance Quote Link to post
