What To Do During Work?

Hey people.. First post here

 

Just wondering I'm thinking of getting a gundog puppy ( I'm still not sure but probably a Springer Spaniel ) And I work from 9am to 4pm.. Im not sure if the puppy would be okay during this time? Im thinking of walking him before work and then after work so 2 walks a day obviously starting small as the pup can get tired quickly! And getting someone to check up on him in the afternoon.. I have two older dogs and there very good to other dogs that have been introduced to them.. Should I keep the pup in the house or would it be okay to have him outside ? ( Im thinking of getting a wooden kennel) I have a dog crate too.. Any suggestions? Would this affect the puppy when I do start training with him ?

Kennel in the day , could bring in at night, but then house training etc andight prolong kennel training. Lots of big meaty bones to occupy him and a walk before and after work, he'll be fine. Always good if you did have someone to socialise him with in the day, but they sleep a lot and if they've got some toys/bones shouldn't get too bored , Atb Joe

I've a person that should be there at 2pm or so nearly every weekday..

Could I tie him to the kennel with a big lead or should I let him do his own thing outside with the two dogs? I live right outside a rural road but it's all dog proof ! I'll get him some thew toys etc!

Any pup is open to programming a routine on, I didn't worry about the trap that people feel they need to keep a pup occupied when not around , a pup doesn't need to be kept jollied along to be content with itself on its own

 

Even if you walk in the morning , in time what your doing is programming an expectancy for the pup to arise and feel energised at an ungodly hour at the weekend when you fancy a leg over or sleep on ,

A pup needs very little human contact , couple of hours a day is plenty shown in studies to grow up completely social in every aspect, too much stimulation can cause anxiety and unsocial behaviour when it's not there

I'm thinking of getting a pup around 11weeks old.. so do you think the pup will be okay outside during the daytime in his kennel and with the other dogs?

During the Saturday and Sunday I'll be there all day..

Just had a we look at pens if you heard of them? I was looking but there fairly dear any ideas? Was thinking of getting one around 6ft high and 10ft long or so.

I might have misunderstood you here. But I wouldn't kennel a pup with an older dog. Separate runs at all times when they are not supervised.

 

Otherwise, as long as there is a place for him to den up and be warm he'll be fine.

 

I should probably add the most important thing to remember. Enjoy your pup!

Getting a run around 10ft by 3ft wide and a kennel for him during the day When im gone to work I'll put him in there. then left him out in the evening.. will be walking twice a day for 10mins until he's a bit bigger.. will have someone check up on him 2pm so 9am-2pm

I've got the the training spaniels a great book, In his book he shows a kennel and run ( I think around page 20 ish or so) and I'm getting a few lads to help me to build it!
