You'll find the USA are the real traitors not Snowden. He spoke out for the best interests of his country and it's people.

He revealed secrets that he shouldn't have (traitor), then ran away and hid, rather than face the consequences of his actions (coward)....

Come on then what secrets shouldn't he had revealed?????

The USA certainly won't face the consequences of it's actions so that makes them about equal then.

It's not like he handed over lists of spies or anything, all he did was reveal the extent of government surveillance on it's own population which makes him a whistle blower in my opinion.

I think it's disgusting what the NSA MI6 etc have been doing, every single electronic action is recorded, now HMRC and other government organisations have access to much of this data....I would say government is the enemy not Snowden.

Big brother gave the world internet so that everyone has a tracker, every purchase , movement and political belief is logged, the world has never been less private. If I could go off radar I would, but it's near impossible unless you are completely self sufficient or has a treasure chest in the garden. I use the internet to find work and have a bank account so I'm constantly monitored, at some point I will do away with the smart phone, and purchase everything with cash, until they achieve their goal of a cashless society. If they decide that democracy doesn't suit them they'll round up anyone that might be a threat. Look at recent Turkish events. If they wanted to stop terrorism they could have left the middle East as it was rather than be a ng instrumental in its instability as well as importing people on a scale not seen before.

It's not what they do it's how they go about it. I'd rather our governments just tell us straight that they are involved in the Middle East for profit and political gains, terrorism my arse......

Dogfox, that's the silliest thing I've read in a long time.

1 • An 18-page presidential memo shows Obama ordering intelligence officials to draw up a list of overseas targets for cyberattacks.

Incredible fore site from the President I think.

2 Documents reveal the NSA's Boundless Informant program, which gives the agency near real-time ability to understand how much intelligence coverage there is on certain areas through use of a "heat map."

Their job is to collect intelligence. Just doing right by their job if you ask anyone with common sense.

3 • The NSA was hacking computers in Hong Kong and mainland China, few of which were military systems.

Do you know what the Chinese word for research and development is? Psst, it's espionage. :bye:

4 • Britain's GCHQ taps fiber-optic cables to collect and store global email messages, Facebook posts, internet histories, and calls, and then shares the data with the NSA

This is Britain looking out for YOUR best interest.

5 • The NSA has a program codenamed EvilOlive that collects and stores large quantities of Americans' internet metadata, which contains only certain information about online content. Email metadata, for example, reveals the sender and recipient addresses and time but not content or subject.

Constitutional as far as I can see. Contents of "letters" are left confidential.

6 • The US government bugged the offices of the European Union in New York, Washington, and Brussels.

7 • The US government spies on at least 38 foreign embassies and missions, using a variety of electronic surveillance methods.

Well this is shocking news.

Dogfox, you don't want to get caught up in all of this. It's how things are done and like the making of sausage best not viewed by the general public. Most countries realize they are being spied upon, and conduct business accordingly. They have their own spy networks and are just as adapt at gathering information as either of our two countries are. Better maybe. If you are employed your employer monitors who you email as sure as your standing there. Believe me.

Edward Snowden is not any kind of hero. More, it's ironic that he like so many other bad actors has taken refuge in the Former soviet union.

It's not in the best interests of the people that live in the USA. People are being spied on even if they have done nothing wrong. You really think that it's acceptable that your every move is being monitored??

With the capabilities these governments have had for God knows how many years it really does make one question the reality of events such as 9/11.......

Well, I can't speak for all Americans. But for myself, I understand the world we live in and the dynamics of what goes on in it. It's true, I'm not doing anything to be ashamed of and all of my professional activities are already a matter of public record. But the government collecting metadata and all the rest doesn't bother me in the least.

If you doubt the reality of 9-11. 343 of my brothers lost their lives that day. Is that real enough for you?

Oh I know it happened alright without a doubt, the question is did the government know about it beforehand?
