forest of dean redneck 11,632
We got a tank with goldfish on kitchen side since last summer, last couple days fish seem to be sitting under the tank pump at end of tank, any ideas. It's roughly 2 ft tank with 4 fish though 3 are from neighbours pond that was filled in and are growing on well.
BEARINATOR 2,871
Could be bacterial infection or if they look swollen it will be bloat. Bacterial I use meth blue but it stains everything so do a 30 second dip in a old bucket or if swollen give a crushed up deshelled garden pea as a natural cure
forest of dean redneck 11,632
Don't look swollen ,always been fat lol had a mark on one,so used aquarium salt while back, water changed since then and also have new pump.
BEARINATOR 2,871
Might just be with it getting colder, my fish are lethargic at the minute but they are pond fish
max_wood 161
Could be sitting there if the water needs a Change mate.water coming out the pump will be oxygenatedas said peas are great . They're like curry to a piss head and seems to give them a real health kick. Mine get them every day Edited December 23, 2016 by max_wood
forest of dean redneck 11,632
We got an air stone type thing bubbling opposite end from the pump/filter,an couple times when pipes got trapped under lid, fish have been at surface gulping air, which I assumed was lack of oxygen,I will try the peas thing when I get some. gnasher16 30,213
Are you sure its not trying to get out of the water current if its hiding under the pump.....if its a small tank with a lot of water movement a fish can literally swim itself to death just trying to stay still over a period of days.....seen it happen a few times.
Malt 379
You've got too many fish in it mate, goldfish are very heavy waste producers, they need something like 4x as much tank space per fish than most fish of a similar size. How often do you do a water change?

neil82 1,080
size of fish (rough guide cold water fish need 20 square inch of surface area per inch of fish) any heating in tank, plants, lighting, any of those could be factors in the way they are behaving. Room temperature is more than adequate for them to be healthy, water changing is more important in a tank and more so if the tank is on the small side. With that many goldies in a 2 ft tank I'd be doing at least twice weekly 40% changes with declorinated water. Some fishkeeping sites would even give you shit for that! forest of dean redneck 11,632
Water is left nearly 24 hrs before added to reach room temp and its roughly 75 percent changed each time.
