Maximus Ferret 2,063
Be careful of ibuprofen with dogs. http://www.vetstreet.com/care/ibuprofen-and-naproxen-toxicity It's quite toxic to them. Metacam is a much better bet. 1 Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,156
I've a dog here that's currently sidelined with a wrist injury, his wrist was swollen to the size of a golf ball,it's been almost 3 weeks since the incident occurred,he's only just these past few days started putting his leg on the ground,I feared his career was over & I guess until I next run him I won't really know,I treat my fella with 3 consecutive days of Metacam & daily treatment in a Portamag box which is ongoing..There is no "quick" fix to wrist injuries, many are reoccurring even after lengthy spells on the sidelines, you just have to be patient, cross your fingers & toes lol & hope for the best..Good luck & hope it's not too serious 4 Quote Link to post
bobza 910
metacam is the stuff like Fuji says ,I always keep a bottle and any swelling I get the stuff straight into the dog ,vets will give a jab then send you away with a bottle ,atb bobza Quote Link to post
dog man 176
Hello how is your dog doing can you send me a. Picture of it there could me more going on there there is things you can do but I would need to see it you could have tendon damage be very careful about doing any exercise even when he starts putting foot down you have to stretch all tendons in the wrist after you think it is ready this takes about 3 weeks of stretches morning and night when a tendon is damaged it shrinks and if you run it too soon you will f--k it for good, I used to run greyhounds for a long time and there is things you can do but like to see it first please hope this helps pm me if you need help I will talk you through it Rds Quote Link to post
desertbred 5,490
Avoid giving Ibrufen to a dog. Metacam ifyou can get hold of it or give 75mg asprin daily for four days and ice pacl to wrist fora couple of times a day then massage the wrist wit a half teaspoon of olive oil with twio drops of pure tea tree oil mixed in twice a day until swelling and any stiffness goes. bunnyboiler 1,052
Do not avoid giving ibuprofen to your dog I've used it on mine and everybody I know youse it on there's as well my old man had a dog that suffered with its back legs and the vet told him I can keep prescribing and charging you alternatively you can give him ibuprofen which does the same job ? Chaff 3,577
Bag of frozen peas held on for 10 mins at a time 2 or 3 times a day loose the swelling and she how it goes Quote Link to post
troyboy17 631
Witch hazel and put the hose pipe on it or put the leg in a bucket of cold water Quote Link to post
tote 854
I wouldn't give it ibuprofen as has already been said it can be toxic to dogs, plenty info on it if you do a google search. Stand it in a bucket of cold water for ten minutes at regular intervals through the day until the swelling goes down. With it being a wrist injury there's so many things that could be causing the swelling, very hard if not impossible to diagnose without seeing the dog. Hope everything turns out okay for him, atb.
