I've trained mink from all sorts of backgrounds, and various different ages. This particular mink was born on a fur farm, and I purchased her as a little 5 week old kit and bottle raised her. Here's a video from when she was younger...

As with any animal, especially wild ones, saying they do something every time is just setting you up for disappointment. I can comfortably say she comes to the whistle the vast majority of the times I call her.
