Poachers On My Permission (What Would You Do?)

The deal that I have on my new permission is that I help keep an eye on the land and act as a set of eyes and ears for the farmers and the Gamekeeper.

 

I have bumped into a couple of lads in the last few months on my permission. The first one was a lad with a rifle shooting Rabbits at night and the 2nd were 3 lads with a few coursing dogs on a Sunday morning.

The lad with a rifle startled me a little bit and I was nice to him and explained where there was a better field where he could shoot more rabbits (little to his knowledge I was pointing him in the direction of neighbouring land where I don't have permission ?)

The coursing lads were on a Sunday morning. Cutting straight through the middle of the fields in broad daylight bold as brass. They were wearing baseball caps, tracksuit and trainers (you know the type). While I was still polite I wasn't as accommodating, after all - they were looking to steal my game! I politely explained to them that they should not be there and explained how to get to the nearest public footpath etc. They walked off into the distance and I expect that they f****d off.

 

I did feel slightly harsh on the coursing lads because I can't say that I have never trespassed and I know the feeling of some jumped up dickhead telling you to clear off but I have a deal and I treat my permission with respect..

 

Has anyone else ever come across anything like this? If so how did you deal with it?

I suspected this on my perm, that someone else was on it too, without permission.

So i set a few decoys up a couple of dead rabbits staked into the ground and a squirrel cable tied to a tree. And set up a hide into a bush to watch for them.

 

To cut a long story short it took a couple of weeks to find out who was doing it, but if you come out of a hide that looks like a bush acting like a mad man with your trousers down and in a vest carrying a dead rabbit.

 

You dont see them again....

 

 

Turned out it was teenagers with air rifles, the good old days.

Plywood cut out in the shape of a fox with cats eyes stuck on the front stick it bang in the middle of a field with some 6 inch nails sticking through it, wether they want to poach it again or not they'll have nondog to do it with! Just kidding the best thing is imtimidation, unless your willing to lose by giving them a hiding and getting a nick on the door by the police your better off with minimum confrontation, although I can't stand that fuckers I'd just call the old bill being abit of a poacher myself over the years I couldn't give a deck about farmers land owners or gamekeepers it was always the police that got me on my toes

Not exactly hard to catch some one with a dirty great lamp on a good lamping night but it would be pretty hypocritical for most lol

Personally get out on your ground and smash it,Really make a effort. Better if you catch them and not them. Most spots get poached now and then. But if there's nothing there they will soon leave it alone
