First Use Of The Winter Hides,- Today.

Recommended Posts

Rained off today lads, ( roofer ) :whistling: - so made the most of it.

Hopefully the posts about Winter hide making and watching the habits of the quarry have been seen, so today I tried to put it all into practice :icon_redface:

The tree I`m shooting over is full of spindle branches and I leaned towards the .177 cal HW 100 KT for the first outing.

This is the view I have, I was wearing a full gillie suit " English Woodland" and shooting over Primos sticks, if you can picture it I am deep within a bramble and privot hedgerow in the darkness of it all too.

The hide and suit worked so well that nothing ever new I and my GSP was there.

Above is the hedgerow we are inside.

Rez - you ready for this  ?

Sat deep in that hide and a pigeon lands high up in the tree, I take the pigeon and it falls lifeless to the floor. Next thing I know the tree is mobbed with corvids going ape over that " just shot pigeon" :icon_eek: .

Before they new what hit them I`d shot four crows ( one not found), a Bandit and the pigeon within( I reckon) 40 seconds, - it sure was an adrenalin rush and so, so glad it was the HW in my hands so I couldn`t load twice.

Nice one Mark.

Went out myself today, first time in weeks and quite interesting because the nettles had died right back revealing a rabbit warren I had not been aware of before because this is my first winter on the perm. Also found a couple of places for permanent hides so on the lookout for a few pallets now but if all else fails, I will be setting up some netting and leave it all year. Unfortunately no hedgerow or thick bushey cover. Photo's next time I go.
