A Morning By The Steam

As per usual we were at our destination before day break , the ever present wind greated us as we got out of the van,we had seen a few rabbits running about so things looked promising. Once suitable hats and jackets had been chosen I had realised I had left my bag of locators and boxes in my car an hour and half away, not a problem though luckily last week my hunting partner had gone down to Shropshire to get some ferrets back that a good friend had, he was packing in with the ferreting so he came back with 6mk 3 collars 2boxes a mk1 box and collar a couple of longnets and baskets and various other bits, we have given him an open invite for days out whenever he wants he's more than welcome. So it was 4mk 3s and that annoying box but needs must as we set off the lurcher had the first rabbit in the bag then marked a set so we longnetted round, I left my mate to it and headed off to the next mark I ended up down by the river, here I set 100yrds long net round then split the warren in half with another, leaving the dog on one side while I kept watch on the otherstraight away one bolted then it seamed to take an age before 3 came more or less together. The view here was very picturesque up and down the hillside we went getting battered with the wind making it hard to even get the nets back in the baskets every bit ov twig,heather,fern and bracken finding there way into them, constinaly picking bits out of them we finished the last warren with afew purse nets for a change very windswept we finished on 19 rabbits time for a relax by the fire now .cheers Neil b
