terryd 8,522
On site at first light at the permission. Big old wood pretty open but hard to keep eyes on the dog. He hit a scent straight away and I tried to keep up but took my eyes off him for a second and he was gone. I couldn't hear a thing and had no idea which way he went. Thoughts of saving for a garmin entered me head lol. As I was walking a rabbit popped up infront of me and I automatically shouted rabbit. Then I heard thud thud behind me and the black fella came flying along. He got his head down but couldn't pin it. Bit further then another got up and I had a good view of the dog belting down through the wood after it and handling the ground well with a controlled run skidding around trees and rocks tidy. Again this one lost him in the cover. Bit disappointed we weren't finding any to ground as it was easy access. Just as we got to the end the dog gave a solid mark on what seemed one hole under the leaves. I couldn't even see any other holes but the dog found another making it a two holer. Looked perfect so nets on and ferret in. There was a hell of a rumble going back and forward clear as day and looked good for a bolt. The dog was ready then it all went quiet and next I could hear squealing then that stopped. I got the locator out it was showing 6 foot Then I noticed it was quite rocky and what looked easy at the start didn't look so easy now. Luckily after a while of waiting the ferret came out all bloodied up. So on to the hedge row then. Too much cover down there though and very few holes so needle in a hay stack job but all good fun bit of a boring video sorry. Unfortunately as I didn't get recording till later or i could have had the runs in the wood . And yes he don't jump unless in hot pursuit and I would rather he didn't then as he all ready has more than enough ways to kill him self. Sticking the lead on at the end was just a precaution his fine but no point taking chances for chances sake and it keeps the farmer happy I waffle to the dog a lot bit pointless half the time like his really going to slow down because I said so 6 Quote Link to post
