I had a well bred whippet off a very well known breeder for my first runner and it wasn't big/fast enough for the big flat fields local to me, yapped and was generally a pain in the arse. The cold and wet had her trying to hide behind things too.

Beddy whippet greyhound or something similar. Uncomplicated and natural hunters.

A lurcher off decent parents that will probably do more than you want ,and will grow in to the sport as you do. Maybe more than 2 breeds maybe not ,but a few years if similar lurchers behind it ,if yo

I would go with a straight whippet, beddy whippets and the like usually have great drive and are not skittish but they can be a bit deaf when on a drag and a bit headstrong, if you can handle that gre

Must of had a bit of bad luck with that whippet mate. My whip will catch Hares with no problem (pre ban). Also never ever yapped when in persuit of game..

I've never understood this about novice or newcomers getting summat small

The lurcher world is a hugely varied world and to limit yourself to a wee dog is in my opinion a bit backwards

I think the sport is best experienced by getting out as much as often and as varied as you can

Why get a beset whippet for when in a year or so you might think ferreting is rubbish and hate coursing is what you fancy

Get summat in that maintains your interest , something that can kill stuff as that's what it comes down to,

I'd get something in that you like, keeps your interest and you'll be happy being your pal as well as taking everywhere

Want something small to fit my circumstance not because of any hunting attributes mate. Prefer smaller dogs that's all.

Then you are setting limitations that should not need setting.Id think about the terrain i work and intended quarry,if the terrain is not suited to the type of mutt you seek then its a pointless exercise.Homework first, second and third, then a well bred mutt that is capable of befitting your needs and future needs. We all start off wanting to kill a mouse and a year later want a dog thats capable of killing a bigger mouse,id not source a first dog that i could not live happily with for the next 12 years or more.
