leethedog 3,071
I'd agree with all above beddy x is ideal to start with normally not as touchy as collie or the dreaded saluki 2 Quote Link to post

Nobby8126 96
Cheers, I'm ok with training (well spanners) but lamping/ferreting with dogs is a completely new discipline for me. Have a guy from here that's been a great source of info and he's local so I'll pester him. He mentioned he mat be breeding next year so might have to tap him up Quote Link to post
scottish lurcher 185
What you planning to do we him would be good starting point and what terrian you expect him to work ,then you will have better idea what you want as it's hard to try to adapt the wrong breeding to suit as you can't fight nature . dogmad riley 1,343
Beddy x or full whippet imo. Both are excellent little dogs that will catch plenty of rabbits. The only problem with starting with something small is like learning to drive once your used to it you want something bigger. I think every pack should have a little whiz banger they are good fun 3 Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
A lurcher off decent parents that will probably do more than you want ,and will grow in to the sport as you do. Maybe more than 2 breeds maybe not ,but a few years if similar lurchers behind it ,if you are lucky enough to find a litter. I'd probably avoid 1st generation 1/2 crosses of most types as it 'can' be a gamble especially if one parent isn't a sight hound . But look at as many as you can ,and ask as many questions as you can ,maybe take someone along . Try and be as honest with hour self as possible ,and don't just go for looks as that 'look'may not be what you want. 4 Quote Link to post

Chunky11 150
Beddy/grey X grew. I only use mine ferreting & lamping rabbits but cant fault him. He is also a great family dog so cant ask for more really! 1 Quote Link to post

Want to work with ferrets and run on farmed fields. Soft ish going. Wouldn't be worked heavily so would be indoors with my spanners. Would also be mooching a lot. Quote Link to post
