Malt 379
I just read in the paper, that the government are to ban samurai swords. Now i'm not saying that some idiots don't do silly things with them, but probably 99% of people who own them, have them as objects of interest, and decoration. Again, the law abiding majority are going to be punished for the actions of a few idiots. Not being funny, but you could do just as much damage with a baseball bat, an axe, table leg, machete, or even run someone over in your car if you were that way inclined. It's just I feel that this is a token gesture, to make it look like they're doing something positive. Like, "we can't stop kids shooting each other with illegal guns, or we can't stop young people knifing each other to death, so I know, we'll ban samurai swords so people don't think we're completly useless"

jasper65 6
I must admit I'm not realy into hacking people up with a samurai sword but whatever next hey! it makes me laugh as you look at Russia and how they used to be with comunist views and now wer're heading in the same direction . how the tide has turned!! russia is now getting more relaxed in laws and the UK is being run by a load of Comunist tossers called The Labour Party..... Malt 379
I'm not into hacking people up either, and I don't even own one! The article said that there has been 100 'incidents' in 4 years. Compare that the figures for other types of 'incidents' and I bet that figure would appear pretty minor. I don't condone any idiot using any type of weapon to scare or injure any person, but I just don't like the idea of criminalising the majority for the actions of the mindless minority. Look at what happens everytime some idiot shoots at somebody with an air rifle.....
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Aye. Now they'll have an Amnesty period ..... God, how I f*cking despise that shit hole of a country! Want to keep ye katana? Just adopt the Shinto faith. That'll make ye a minority with an angle. Claim it's an infringement of ye religious minority rights. Get to do what ever ye f*ckin well like then.
Guest Macnas
I read up a little on this issue. There is already a law in place where it is illegal to carry such a sword in public. So why make up new laws instead of enforcing the existing one? Another easy bingo card policy, nothing real, just popularist pandering to the "I am outraged" letter writing whiners and lazy policemen.

Another easy bingo card policy, nothing real, just popularist pandering to the "I am outraged" letter writing whiners and lazy policemen. being a martail arts student for many a year i own said 'offending' item ( a ww2 officer issue sword) and ill be buggered if im going to hand it to anyone (police or otherwise) or any of my other swords for that matter. i agree its just another attempt made by the goverment to try and look good. its pathetic. they should try sorting the kids out properly before indroducing futile measures that restrict law abiding people. simple fact is that since the gun and knife anmisties related crimes and the amount of said items available illeagelly have risen dramaticaly and will continue to do so untill someone has the intelligence and balls to sort it out in an effective manner. think about this....you can leagelly go to woolworths and buy a 12" knife from the household section and carry it home in a carrier bag but your not alloud to have a penknife more than 3" on your keys lee
greatwhitehunter 47
it makes me laugh that they want to ban it, but theres already loas of them out there so the nut cases who own them will keep them and the enthusiast will not be able to appreciate his hobby legally
Guest SJM
Its completely crazy because if you kill someone in a heat of the moment type murder, your not going to go ooh hang on a sec til I go and get my samari sword and hack you into bits with it whilst pretending Im in a highlander film and if its a premeditated murder then everyone has their own "thing" that they would do to someone if they had time to plot the killing. Some people like to stab and see the blood, some shoot close up, some shoot from a distance like a sniper, some are poisoners, bludgeoners, suffocaters, stranglers, some like it bizarre. Me I would like to do someone from behind with a rope til they go limp then get on top of them and do the last bit with my bare hands, cant exactly ban hands or rope can you? You could just as easily stab someone multiple times with a fork, or stick a screwdriver through their eyeball or crack them on the skull with a hammer but none of these things are illegal its completely pathetic the way the laws in this country are going
cúagusgiorraí 57
A friend of mine was shopping in a Galway shopping centre a few years ago and saw a man walk up to a lad and slice his chest open with a samurai sword and briskly walk away. It was done so silently that no one hardly noticed. The man died nearly instantly and the murderer was never found. It was a organised murder. It is not like a gunshot going off everyone would be alerted. I think they should at least be liscenced.

Point taken, that must have been horrific but you could do the same with a 12 inch kitchen knife. Walk up to somebody and then bang, straight up under the ribs, less conspicuous too. My point was that if someone REALLY wants to do someone a mischief, they'll do it, regardless of whether the tool they use is legal or not. Like Macnas said, there's laws in place already that prohibit the carrying of these things in public.
