I know vets are needed but like has been said 99% are robbing b*****ds. They prey on the weak minded and elderly that want the best for their dogs and trust what the vets say. Some of the prices they charge for things are ludicrous.

why would they lower their prices if that's what insurance companies will pay out. if your not happy with Paying it, either train to be a vet yourself or get pet insurance.

Why take it so personally? They have people ( especially working dog men) by the short and curlies because if you get a knock at the door and have no ''vet history'' for your dogs then you're fooked. And the vets use that amongst other reasons as a license to print money.

Sorry if I come across that way, I dont agree with their views either and the law will never work for us again. I was just being logical, they ain't gunna budge their prices if insurances are paying it.

I had a terrier years a go ,it had its top jaw broken in half in an accident,

Took it to the vets says its going to cost thousands to treat,then it may not be right,he asked if i had pet insurance.

I didnt have pet insurance,he did mend it and bill was under 400.00p ,the dog still worked to ground ,

I think pet insurance charges have helped increase the cash paying charges.

vets are robbing basterds and pet insurance is nothing but a con , i once needed a c section done and was quoted £650 and £50 a pup if more than four he got told to do one i told him id shoot the dog first 10 mins later they rang back £200 if i paid in cash big differnce most vets don t give a flyin fck about animal welfare these days just the money they can make

The good lady's mum has a little terrier, that's 12 or 13 years old now. He's been having some non-descript digestive problems, and has been going to the vet every two or three weeks.

Now....to me, these are nothing serious, as he's had them for 3 years or so, he's still going strong and he's otherwise well.

 

The vet sees things differently...he has regular blood tests etc (30 - 50 quid a time) and they sell her a case of 12 tins of 'special' food at 39 quid a pop ! Kerching !

It's supposed to be a low fat food, but i checked the label on the sly, and I wouldn't call 26% 'low fat' ! He's had 5 or 6 different medications, all have made no difference, and all have cost her a small fortune by now ! Kerching !

 

Latest visit, and she sees a different vet who says the could do an MRI.....over a thousand pounds ! Kerching !

 

Seems a lot of fuss, for a little dog that gets the runs every now and then, but is otherwise OK ? I'm no vet, but I've suggested that she put the cat's food out of reach and see what happens......

I am on my third local vet, f***ing tuck up merchants the lot of them.

It has put me off ever getting another dog.

I had to have a dogs eye took out after an accident earlier this year. Vetsavers ( sic ) charged me £130 to see him and give him some painkillers and were going to charge over £1000 for the operation. I rang my old vet we used before moved and they charged £250 for the op and follow up visit. Bit of a difference, eh?

Had to go to the vet's today,they have Amalgamated with another vets. And now have a price list behind the counter.I nearly laughed

A bitch spay starts from £189

A castration from about £115

Full consultation is £30.99

2nd is £24? I think it was ,now they used to be free I'm sure.

No wonder they drive decent cars!

and so they should drive good cars. They're professionals with years of training. Some people want everything for nothing

I rarely had to use a vet in last 6 year,so was shocked how much the prices had risen.

I was funding my kids studies,it stung,i was looking at a f***ing good return on my long term investement.

Mate the investment cannot be held to account im paying a grand a month just for my daughters school here (not including books, excursions or trips away). I see it as an investment in her future, I dont want nothing back except she does what she feels is right.

 

BUT!

 

It does piss me off when she has a blaise attitude towards it..... kids eh? ???

I'd be very happy never to use a vet again both because costs are ridiculous and because it would mean no unhealthy dogs.

The last time I used one they set two people and would not put my 13 year old ridgeback to sleep until they had checked him - as if you would request the death of a pet you have had for 13 years without just cause. they are arrogant and a serious affront to caring owners. Prices I reckon are mostly down to insurance - some company pays, charge a fortune.

My vets has turned from being a urban/country practice into a multi local conglomerate, prices are rising, care etc is declining. Took two dogs in for booster a month apart, same vet a lass about 25, very "doggy friendly" but missed a couple of things I knew were that but she never spotted and never asked the weight on one ( scales in waiting room)

They are business nowadays, just like dentists unfortunately.
