mackem 26,261
they deserve the cash i think, the degree is a massive workload, one of my kids was doing it then dropped out and took a far easier course as he was waking at 2am to study,it burnt him out,i checked out the course before he started, just over 1/3'of those who start the course pass. I had to get a dog pts last year, long story but he was in pain and wasn't going to live so I said to them just put him down ASAP,they said he'll have to wait for a vet but they loaded him up on painkillers which I agreed to. I asked how much while I waited and it was about £160,too late to take him anywhere else by then so I had to pay,but will never go back there. I'm convinced they only charged so much because they knew I had no choice.

Tiercel 6,986
The last dog I had PTS cost £36 as I was taking him home, that was approx 4 years ago. Year before last the daughters horse had colic she kept her moving and phoned for the vet, as it happened the vet was half a mile up the road at another stables and was with us within 15 minutes as it was on her way home to the practice. She gave the horse an injection, and told her to keep it moving, the price of the medication was what you would expect, but she still got charged a £60 call out fee. If that is not taking the pi$$ then I do not know what is. TC
crowsnest 55
the vet i use wanted over £550 + consultation fee for a caesarean on a bitch of mine ,i told him to fu@k off so he knocked the consultation fee off,my vet that i normaly use was'nt there and it was an emegency, they really know how to charge but the training and everything is alot longer than a GPs so they got to get there money back somehow

Bosun11 537
I'd guess at about 90% of all vets are robbing anti cnuts IMO, who turn their noses up at working dogs... Fecking vampires that prey on pet owners heartstrings for their own gains, working prices up with the trend in pet insurance...
mattyg 1,862
Totally agree bosun, had a bit of an emergency on a Sunday afternoon so had to go to one of those "specialist" out of hours places..... They wanted almost £1200 to run tests and alsorts before stitching him up. Hex was made comfortable and I took hm to my vets on a Monday..... Let's just say it was a lot cheaper. The company in question actually rent the practice from PDSA out of hours from what I can gather and not one of em looked old enough to vote! Lol Matt
Nik_B 3,790
£160 to kill your dog....there is something very wrong with that...where is the compassion? My dog got a nasty injury when we were here on holiday before moving, he had a huge sack of fluid between his claws. I got absolutely fleeced for 'emergency' weekend treatment, think it cost around 250-300 quid in total...just so they could take a look and give me antibiotics!
