TAXI DRIVER 549
I`ve just had permission on a fair bit of land and spoke to the farmer yesterday. He showed me the bounderies of his land etc.I noticed that neighbouring land held a load of horses which appear to be roaming wild and have never been broken.I`ve never lamped land with horses on in the past.Anyone got experiences of horses behaviour if spooked with a lamp? Are they like cows ie ok if you keep your distance. low plains drifter 10,475
Race horses are usually highly strung, and come straight over, big powerful things they are, cobs, and riding horses are a lot more placid, but there all best avoided wherever possible Quote Link to post

THE STIFFMEISTER 15,875
I'd keep away more so at night than in the day, they'll think you've came to see them esp if you rock up in a motor and they can make a mess of you, never mind the dog Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
Yes and the sound of the dog running at night seems to spook them as well. Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Horses are far more dangerous than cows, or most other things for that matter! Yep, i too avoid horse fields whenever possible. Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416
Daytime, you've some chance because a lot of horses know what a dog is, even if it's hunting. Personally, I'd walk through a field of horses if dogs were beside me quicker than cows with calves, no problem. Dogs beside you horses are easy to keep back. Night time, most stock will spook but horses will kill you or themselves and that £200 plug that breaks a leg will be worth £2000 by the time the vet shoots it. 4 Quote Link to post
peterhunter86 8,627
Imo it depends if there used to people coming on the land if not they can be very curiouse just like cows.i hunt a bit of common land daily thats a dumping ground for unwanted horses and never had a problem they dont even lift there head when we enter the land but in saying that there is one that has a hatred for dogs i give that a wide birth but the dogs hunt in and around them with no bother.
