Recommended Posts

right lads i need you lot to keep an eye out for a cheap AA s410 or 400 stock for a member off hear who,s son in law needs a stock so he can adjust the stock comp on it so its at the right height for his eye .

Phil pot will be along soon and he will explain what its needed for and why

Sorry for putting this up Phil but if any one can sort some thing out for your son in law its the good lads off hear .

The lad would just convert the original stock but as it was a gift off his wife and it would effect

the resale value

a second hand stock would be the way to go

So can you all keep an eye out for one for him and let me or philpot know

condition is not important as after the conversion ill be doing the stock back up for him

Thanks Jimmy.

Allow me to explain.

My son in law used to shoot my HW100 with no problem and wanted a rifle himself so my daughter bought him an AAS410 last Christmas but he uses it rarely. Now after talking to him, I had forgotten that he had an accident to his right eye that left him with blurred vision in that eye. He is right handed and can shoot shotguns with no problem because both eyes are open. The comb height on the HW allowed him to place his head low enough to look through the scope with his left eye and shot very well this way but as the comb on the AA stock is very high, he can't get his head down low enough to see through the scope.

Now he cannot afford to change the gun for perhaps an Ultra XL which has a very low stock and adjustable comb which would be ideal, so my thought was to try and get a damaged or unwanted/ stock and take down the comb height to a point that he can shoot it AND keep the original stock in case he sells the guns when more cash is available, that would be the best of both worlds. If we took the current stock down, it's second hand value would go through the floor, hence the reason to look for another stock.

It is an unusual situation, I admit but if anyone has a spare stock for not a lot of money, we would be very grateful to get hold of it and do the work to get him shooting again.

Thanks for reading this.

Thanks John

It is just too much for him at the moment, for a little more than that he could possibly part ex the gun for another with lower stock. I have had a PM from a guy in Devon who can change this stock into an adjustable stock for £60 but it will still need to be reduced in height.

We will just wait and see what comes up over the next few days and then see what we have available,it is always tricky spending someone else's money but I feel we will find a solution sooner or later and I am going to take his gun to the RFD to see just what would be a part ex value so he can at least know what the score is for him.

I popped into my local RFD today for a coffee while I was in Scunthorpe and told him what we were thinking of doing, he smiled, then disappeared in the back and came out with this.

£50 which is spot on. I have not bought it yet as we are as a matter of interest going to see what sort of deals are on offer if he can trade in for a gun with adjustable stock but at least we have one stashed if that is the route we are taking.

Thanks for looking out chaps.

I thought I would just bring you up to date with this situation.

As shown above, I got hold of a 410 stock but at the same time I have had several chats with my RFD to establish if a better solution could be found. Well after a bit of wheeling and dealing we came up with an offer on Simon's 410 against a new Ultra XL. I know the XL is not generally liked for it's looks but it answered the issues my son in law has with his 410 in terms of stock comb height and thickness.

Today I took him in to establish if this gun was in fact suitable for him, we popped on a spare Nikko Mountmaster scope I had in a drawer and hey presto, perfect eye position for him and to give you an idea of how much difference there was needed, I had to lift the adjustable comb approx 3/4'' to get it right for me compared to the ideal position for Simon.

We took in into the 25mt range at the shop and I am pleased to say that he was able to produce half decent groups but please bear in mind he has only shot a few times this year so a good start. Now I have said before that these XL guns have grown on me as I have kept picking them up in the shop but this time I was able to put a few mags through after Simon had finished. It was nice to shoot and produced really good groups........................okay okay, it was only 25mt but a good start.

I now have a happy son in law, I have lost a scope because he liked that one and a mod.....................................I knew it would cost me but never mind he can start shooting again.
