Have you squeezed the anal glands?? Squeeze them and see if they are full..   If not.... collar, antihistamines and vets in the morning. Had a terrier like this, it was a fecking nightmare and cost

I'd say Shane is on his way to fixing the problem, please God.   BUT, Topper , your post made me laugh. Did you go through the child cruelty that I did as a kid ????????????? Because my parents use

Allergy? Maybe take it to vet an get a skin scraping look at it under microscope.

I taught the same about the flea allergy but I've washed him up with sheep dip a few times went through him and not a sign of a flea. I think it might have started like that but now he's just got into a bad habit of doing it.

If the terrier is as clean as a whistle Rippem might be right and it might be a psychological problem.

Is the terrier very inbred and is he highly strung in other things he does ?

It probably wont work with an animal as determined as a working terrier but there is stuff you can get from vet supplies for putting on a sows teats to stop the piglets suckling, I think it used to be called something like Bitteralos or similar. Haven't used it in years but have a look and see is there something similar still available. It's very bitter.

If hes tightly breed more then likely he's got a menatal problem and you not gonna fix it. Unless you gove him Xanax or some other drug to keep his kind off it.watch first the tail then it will be his leg or something elese. Ill tell you now its now mange. Dogs like that have a problem in there head and it will always be there and the other owner knew this and this is why it was gifted to you because he didnt want to deal with it..you said if it keep up the tail will be gone in a coue weeks. Well if thats the z

Case instead of him mutilating himslef take him on amd have it removed. Then you will see if it foxs the problem or if its his mental state. Id bet its his mental state and will either chew higher up on his ass or go for a leg. Ivermect or soap isnt gonna cure it.

Probably Stockholm Tar.

According to the old school it cures everything, from bad bites to leprosy.
