Terrier Eating His Tail

Recommended Posts

Right lads I've a terrier here that is eating his tail. And when I say eating I don't mean chewing it is mean he's after eating and inch of length of it. I've dosed him washed him in sheep dip I've even muzzled him. I'm at a widths end now lads it's gone to the stage where I'm thinking very strongly about putting him down. Has anyone any suggestions on what to do

Have you squeezed the anal glands?? Squeeze them and see if they are full..   If not.... collar, antihistamines and vets in the morning. Had a terrier like this, it was a fecking nightmare and cost

I'd say Shane is on his way to fixing the problem, please God.   BUT, Topper , your post made me laugh. Did you go through the child cruelty that I did as a kid ????????????? Because my parents use

Allergy? Maybe take it to vet an get a skin scraping look at it under microscope.

He was gifted away as a pup and he gave him back to the breeder when he was 16 months or that. Which in turn he gifted me him. When u got him he was chewing hid tail a small bit but in the last week or two he's starred earing it. If he stats going the way he is he won't have a tail in two weeks and that's not exaggerating it

Sounds like a possible flea alergy, usually brought on because of previous poor treatment. If the dog has been infested before they can suddenly react real bad to bites. I'll say my previous; dose up with antihistamines (double human dose as dogs dont absorb it well) and vets in the morning for the appropriate tests ;)
