Popular Post gwalchmai4110 1,757
being completely honest....my head hasnt been in the digging game for a few different reasons. People letting you down, people talking utter shit so on so fourth. This coupled with being short of dogs has tested me. I have been doing alot more with my runners. but you know what its like, its in your blood so this weekend decided to stop being a wet wipe and get on with it. I took a couple of mutts out saturday to try a few bale stacks as in this rough weather they usually provide me with a charlie or two, but it was not to be. tried a few places but all dead, untill i got to a nice little spot in some chritmas trees and in dropped "tanner" i could soon here her baying away soundly but all was not well, something wasnt right! I got down to her and she looked like she had been attacked with a scissors!? on looking up the tube i could see why.....a nice feral tom sat up on a ledge! unbelievable, but not uncommon around here.obviously he was let go....... any way onto sunday a call out for the hounds local.....lovely. we met up with a few boys and off we set. drew the first few plantings but nothing so i decided to drop back to a little earth i knew to have a play so there was two young lads out on the day one 9 and one 13, both had with them there little farm terrier curs so i gave them a speech about how they were now the terrierman and sent them on there way with a collar and box for there little mutts and told them to carry on up with the huntsman and id catch up. i got to the earth and the honours fell to the young dog ffloyd. he entered, did his thing and i had him out in no time, but he had been reckless with this customer and had paid the price. i then set off to catch up with the hounds, only to find they were on an earth !!! bonus! one of the young lads had his little dog in and it was baying away but kept coming out. This was no bother as the look on these young lads face was priceless! we left them at it for a while before lifting the dog and i dropped a tiny little bitch in. wasnt long before she was in and on, and i left the two young lads in charge of her while i moved on! (the huntsman was with them). they were made up and i hadnt gone far before the cries indicated they had had a result. i got to my next small earth again plenty of trade so ffloyd was put back in but he couldnt do anything with this customer! which didnt impress me as although a tad sore i thought he was made of sterner stuff but hes a young dog and time will tell. i replaced him with the plummer and after wahat seemed like an age i got a mark and dug her out ticking away. she was a little far off but we accounted for him. i caght pack up with the hounds and we went on all was quite before we run one in the fading light into a tight little spot. and a tad miffed with the young dog ffloyd i collared him up and in he went. wasnt long before he was well into charlie and as it was .6 deep i told the two young lads to set about digging him. and away they went like little jcbs lol ffloyd was lifted and charles was dispatched! not a bad day in all but the highlight had to be dropping the two young uns back home and them telling there old man they had dug a fox!!! priceless!! these are after all the future of our sport atb 41 Quote Link to post
