Dog, Ferrets, Nets And Good Company

I arranged a outing out today on the rolling hills. A nice casual walkout with Jekyll and of course the ferreting kit and my dog who's in his third season. I have been given a few ferrets back from my old lines which I thought I had lost so I was keen to see how they worked.

 

We dropped on a few good warrens which we netted up and all produced a good amount of rabbits to be caught in the nets and a few slippers which were mopped up by the dog in good style.

 

As the day progressed we used less and less nets and gave the dog a good workout, and he didn't disappoint with some spectacular catchs and solid retrieves(would of been nice to have had my decent camera with me, but I prefer to enjoy the action without looking through a lens)

Really happy with the ferrets performance so far and glad they are not the type to stay with a rabbit till dug out. The dog seems to get better and better. He was bred for this job and those rabbits sure found out he was too. He's the type to be all over a rabbit with sheer speed in a split second.

Fine dog and a fine day. I know what you mean about the speed too. Mine is the same terrain permitting he reels them in with in seconds

Sounds a good day buddy and the dog did well but I'm not sure about the ferret not stick in but each to there own dog looks a handy type how's he bred

I take it you don't have 16ft + sandy warrens. If they show after 20mins I am happy, cos i ain't digging for a fecking rabbit at that depth.

I dig what depth I have to dig granted some are better than others in deep spots but digs are part and parcel of the job aren't they not lol

Much over 4ft is a pain in arse, rather be on next warren catching rabbits ??
