TOMO 26,820
If she doesn't like teeth she wont be bred from, if a little terrier has enough balls for a fox so should she? Am i wrong in assuming a 25 pound whippet should kill a 14 to 18 pound fox?atb ok i will bite....... yes you are wrong to expect that,,,some terriers were bred to kill foxes,,,,whippets never were,,they were bred to race,,,and to catch a few rabbits... ok some whippets will kill a fox , but likes already been said,,why get one for that job... and just to stick my neck on the line,,i woukd breed a big lurcher that wouldnt look at fox,,,again there not the natural pray of a lurcher,,,lurchers were bred to catch a small amount of edible game for the table.. all these big bags of game taken with lurchers at night,,,long courses on hares daytime,,killing numerouse foxes in a day or night,,,all these things are a modern thing for lurchers... 6 Quote Link to post

Busher100 748
Im not asking her to kill 3 a night ,4 times a week .all I want is for her to take the odd one when out lamping our out with terriers. In both situations I or the terriers will be there to give her a hand so to ask her to hold the odd one is not to much to expect .And as for breeding big lurchers that wont look at fox. Why? Not arguing just curios.atb Quote Link to post
stevo79 569
This is a pointless thread get the right dog for the job and don't come on an an open forum talking about lamping foxes. Some things should just be kept to yourself. 1 Quote Link to post
Sirblessed 2,511
I have used whippets and 3/4s for years on foxs, but never one out. I run them with a finishing dog usually one of my apbt, the whippets job is to slow them up thats it, which most I have trained will do. I don’t run them often enough these days, and haven’t for over 20 years to justify a designated dog for this, or I would have one, bull x dh/grey was my dog of choice. There may be a few whippets that can and will kill them but not many, out of ½ a dozen Ive owned only one ¾ whippet x DH was capable and still struggled. jmo PS never seen a whippet that wouldn't chase a bunny Quote Link to post

Am i wrong in assuming a 25 pound whippet should kill a 14 to 18 pound fox?atb a terrier has enough balls for a fox...thats underground jaw to jaw not above ground in the open, a 25lbs whippet would get up to a 14-18lbs fox above ground but be unlikely to get to it underground.
