Some of the guys who hunt on our property left their hog trap so I figured I'd put it to some use ! Rebaited with some fresh sour corn. These small cages don't work as well as corral traps for control but for helping with groceries their OK , if it wasn't for the cows I'd be snaring them on the trails but last thing I need to do is snare a $1500 bull !

One thing about these is the sour corn usually ends up attracting coon possum or skunks so to take advantage of this I set some Dog proofs on the edges. Here's some details pics of a wolf creek Diablo dog proof, there's like 15 different ones on the market but they all work basically the same. A fill with your bait , (cat food is common, I'm using a mix of cat food and catfish food pellets, their are quite a few commercial baits like GLO-balls coon crush monster grizz bait eat but coon usually ain't super picky.)compress the spring set the trigger stab in the ground and anchor off. Coon possum and skunks bare basically the only animals that can get caught in these due to the fact they actually need to reach in and pull or push the trigger. I do think I saw some catch a grey fox in one though. When they trigger the trap the spring pulls up on a retaining collars that pin their foot the top of the pipe. Theirs almost always at least two swivels in the main chain to allow ghe trap to move as the animal fights. I anchor mine with 5ft of chain and a good aggressive drag. A bad drag will have you climbing ten foot up a tree after a coon. You can also use a rebar stake, earth anchor,or cable extensions . All work but I just prefer a good drag most if the time.
